Preferred method of execution (pg. 5)

actually, i'd really like to be the first person to fly/die in a black hole
Omega_M
Any method where the person wouldn't know about the impending death, which strikes in a flash would be acceptable to most people. A car accident which snaps the spine before a person realizes anything, or a gun shot to the head without any prior knowledge of the action, or a bomb explosion...

well in case of execution, shot in the head from the back would come close. I guess, even hanging if done properly is painless. Snaps the neck. So if the person doesn't know the timing of the release of the door under his feet...he shouldn't be too worried about the actual process of experiencing the death. It's gona get over in a split second.

Basically, you'd have about 45 minutes of hanging out with the aliens from star wars at the guggenheim while jacques cousteau fillets you a herring, and then you'd go to sleep and never wake up.

LOL @ Jacques Cousteau fileting you a herring :stongue:
Krypton
Lethal injection. With whatever they use to put down dogs and cats. That stuff works within 5 seconds. Won't even know what happened.

warning ******** quality post - also graphically horrible and disturbing account of stuff that could happen

Actually being anywhere but directly under or within a few hundred/thousand meters, depending on yield, of a nuclear explosion would be a horrible way to get killed.

First the flash would blind you if you were looking directly at it, second the flash releases many thousands of degrees of heat and depending on the distance you either burst into flames or receive horrible flash burns across any exposed part of your body.

Second the blast wave would hit you with the force of many atmospheres and at great speeds. It would literally crush your chest cavity and all your internal organs, most likely shattering your spine in the process. Consider yourself lucky if this happens, it gets much worse!

If you are not dead by this point from either the flash or the concussion you will be flying through the air hitting debris or being tossed into buildings that remain standing. Glass at this point is your worst enemy. If you are indoors for this part flying glass will be shredding you to pieces as if you were in a blender. The overpressure then would most likely smash and destroy the structure you are in.

At this point most of the blast effects are over with. If you have survived all of that, lucky you! Here comes the fun part.

The world around you is literally on fire as the heat from the blast is that of what would happen if a tiny amount of the sun had fell to earth. Thick, black, acrid smoke fills the atmosphere and chokes out the air and sky around you. Your skin begins to peel off where it was exposed to the flash, or you already have raw muscle and bone structure exposed due to the heat causing your skin to literally melt and burn off. There is good potential for massive infection to these wounds.

Now the lasting killer begins to settle in. Ionizing radiation has made all of the debris sucked up into the mushroom cloud highly radioactive and that material begins to fall back to earth as a fine ash. Areas close to ground zero are already basking in levels of radiation many thousands of times greater than a safe yearly level. The people still alive there do not have much longer to live. Their cells are rapidly committing apoptosis, their body is killing itself due to the radiation scrambling the essential mechanisms of life. These people will die in less than an hour.

Further away the slower symptoms of acute radiation sickness begins to set in. They feel the same as panic, which sadly is also a common condition at this point. Rapid breathing, nausea, headache, uncontrollable defecation and vomiting. These people will be dead within a few hours, maybe up to a day later.

Those who have survived relatively unharmed and not in shelters will also be receiving a lethal dose of radiation at this point as well. Their symptoms are the same as above but will manifest themselves over the course of a week or two. This slower death involves more subtle symptoms as well, shedding of the top layer of skin as well as lose of hair.

That is about all that would apply to this thread I guess... It doesn't even count the horrors that would result from what would we can only assume be a full on nuclear exchange between the major powers. That would include nuclear winter which over the course of a decade would turn into a nuclear summer as the entire ozone layer would have been eradicated by the nuclear exchange. Not to mention the basic reset of human civilization. Modern farming and agricultural practices would no longer be applicable and the amount of arable land would be slim to none. Anarchy and disease would be the new masters of human existence. After 100 years or so things would begin to return to a more medieval climate, but essentially the planet would be worthless for much of anything beyond the most simple life forms.

Anyways, I hope I didn't kill anyones buzz or anything... :p

I'm pretty sure most of them knew what was going to happen to the victims...

Oppenheimer quoted a Hindu text at Trinity saying "Now I am become death. The destroyer of worlds" where as the Trinity Site director, Kenneth Bainbridge, said this after the test "Now we are all sons of bitches."

They knew what they were playing with. They unleashed the most horrible basic forces of the universe upon the world.

Thank God I can just hide in a refrigerator and avoid all that nonsense.

RE: the whole cocaine v heroine thing. I'm sure heroine is lovely, I'd still like to go out in a flurry of blow and strippers. Just sayin', sounds a lot more fun than ODing in my ty studio apartment's bathroom with a belt strapped to my forearm and a dirty needle sticking out of me. I mean it's bad enough that that's how Abbos like Domesticated go out, I'm not gonna be in that pile. No sir, I have a job.
