First, sorry. I would imagine this has been asked quite a few times.

But I just got a Macbook Pro and am interested to know what is the best approach for recording albums into a digital format on this?

Any recommendation on software or approach would be appreciated.

Thanks.

itunes? import album and then convert the media to mp3 or whatever you want within itunes preferences?

itunes yes. if its a mix cd then probably garageband and record it using the laptops input so it will be a whole file instead of divided into tracks.

Within itunes can you tell me how this is done?

I have the turntables hooked up, cable plugged into the line in on the MBP.

What mention options do I select to start the recording of a track?

Thanks.

Manual?

Can you or someone just save me the potential hours there and say - click this, that, this, and then that and be done with it? Or is it not simple?

Audacity would probably be simpler so I'd download that. Switch the input at the drop box at the top and give it a go.

I checked the garageband manual pdf and it didn't state anything about ripping vinyl.

For reference, here's the pdf that I scanned through. Maybe it's in there and I'm retarded, but I bet audacity would still be more simple in the long run.

OK. I downloaded audacity. I can see the L meter moving but not the right and I can't hear anything thought the laptop.

Can you help me a bit more please? You mentioned switching the input. Where is that located?

Ok I see the drop down where it should be but it is disable it appears. Is there something I need to pick first to enable it?

are the turntable connected through a mixer? turntables have very low signal and needs to be amplified with a RIAA-preamp which is inbuild in dj-mixers. If not u need that too or u wont get a good rip. Its like using a microfone without amp.

Ok, it is in Edit - Preferences, but there is not a Line In option. Hmm...only VMWare VMAudio and Microsoft Sound Mapper and it doesn't sound that great through the laptop.

What am i missing here?
