Nick Warren has my #1 vote.
He is so consistent on sets, albums, and promo mixes. He plays music nobody else does; and also plays music you can't find anywhere at all. With all the complaints of DJ's playing beatport mixes, or selling out by playing cheese... Nick is a DJ who's not afraid to bang out a track from a decade ago and have it work out with sheer class and style.
There are not too many DJs out there you can give A's across the board to. Nick is one of them. |

i never really put thought into who the top dj is this year, but i can agree wholeheartedly with this post. now i was way too faced to remember anything from when nick played at ruby skye in may, but i have 9 or 10 of his mixes from 2009 and every single one of them is great beginning to end. warren's music has logged the most play time on my bike by far, and that's the music i put on when i'm soaking up the beauty of the sf bay on those days when it's way too nice to be inside... much like today actually! hmm... anyway there isn't another dj that comes to mind that i can say any of this about. |

Like rich, I hardly ever put serious thought into who is the #1 DJ for any year may be, but your argument for nick is spot on as any argument could be. Although Im not really a fan of Nick's style, Im impressed by any dj that takes that approach to djing these days as I myself attempt to play tracks that nobody else plays regardless of where im playing or who is listening. Pumping out fresh, foreign, underground tracks has always been my approach. I have always tried to bring an outdoor psychedelic style to indoor clubbing, and leave the club hits & cheese to all the others who stand together. Sometimes it works perfect, and sometimes it doesnt. But remaining consistent and true to your style should go along way these days
But if one dj comes to mind as the TOP DJ this year, Id have to say Carl Cox. I have yet to hear any reviews of his set anywhere that was not mind blowing. From TA reviews, to personal accounts of his shows all over the world, Carl Cox has been on top form for many many years, but appears to have stood apart from the big boys this year. |

| Carl overall seems to have really stepped it up the last two eyars. You hear the occasional "eh" review on him, but overall a lot of great things compared to the previous several years. |
