I'm considering driving out to Buffalo this weekend (probably Saturday) to pick up a piece of DJ gear; specifically 1092 Niagara Falls Blvd (Guitar Centre store address).

I wouldn't mind bringing someone along with me if he/she wants to go somewhere close to the above listed location (shopping etc.).

You pay for gas, I drive. I drive a 2-door 2007 Civic which is rather efficient on gas.

Anyone potentially interested?

A buddy just reminded me of the duties I'll have to pay on goods that I bring back into Canada :(

Anyone have any idea how much I'll have to pay on (let's say) $900 USD worth of goods (same day return)?

I'm guessing that in the end the trip will not be worth my time/money.

You will pay 13% taxes, plus duty on electronics which is about 5%..

To be safe just calculate 20% at most on top of the price..

So after conversion plus 20%, roughly 1100-1200CAD

why would you have to disclose that you're carrying a new piece of equipement in your car? you can always say you borrowed a used piece from your friends in Buffalo

non?

If you don't declare it and get caught they get to access penalties which are 1.5 to 2 times the cost of tax+duty or they can seize it!

if you have american friends have them drive it over the border in their car in their trunk out of the package. They shouldnt bother the yanks especially if he says "oh i forgot to put that in the garage". Ive done this many times.

Heres what I have done many times in the past.

You buy your stuff, put the packaging and all that in the garbage, go to the mall, buy some stuff like a shirt, or what ever (buy a few little things), then you claim that stuff at the boarder, with the gear in your trunk, and say you met a friend for dinner/lunch and went to the mall for a bit and bought some clothes.

;)

Should you get searched still, your gear is in the trunk with no boxes or anything, and you say your a DJ/Producer, and forgot to unpack some of your gear before you left. (or some similar excuse/story)
