you know who is tough in the air force? the guys with the pocket rockets, they have to sit down 100ft in the underground on 24 to 48 hour alerts ready to literally kill 20,000,000 people in a moments notice. They might be some skinny little s but they sure as hell have the mental toughness of anyone else in the service.

PJs are the toughest AF guys. That superman pipeline is ing ridiculous.

I don't know, working in the houses he works in and not coming to the conclusion that communism is a great thing might be pretty tough... :p

Hitler got his tooth extracted without any local anesthesia in front of a battalion , the story tells that the people that showed a painful face during his extraction got executed .

I'm sure lenazi is proud about this :p

BTW Will, every time I read Red Storm Rising I think of you as the AF Meteorological Officer that is trapped on Iceland with a couple marines and a preggo icelandic girl evading russkis. :p If only you were that tough. Instead you are in Enid, Oklahoma...

not to make myself sound any better, but there is a level of mental toughness on a meteorologist. weather in the AF is a thankless job. you get yelled at when you're wrong, and you get yelled at when you're right because they think that it was you who caused the weather to happen.

i mean, seriously, think about going to work everyday, and someone ALWAYS complaining about you. even if you do a good job.

besides, our weather shop has a tornado siren button (fully equipped w/ safety plastic covering you have to lift)...and it's always staring at you...just waiting for you to push it...

I knew a couple of lads who used to work on the farm that came from Angola. They probably spent the better part of their lives from the age of 11-12 killing people for the next 6 years before they managed to get away at the age of 18 or so and make new lives for themselves. But there's a level of hardness to their character that never leaves a past like that behind, they are handy to have on your side when the government doesn't like you any more.
Lot of Africa is like that, if you don't have your soul welded to a backbone of iron, then your probably dead :(

YOU'RE....!

Which is why the AF is filled with cunts for the most part. Its such a one-man-show attitude. Lots of machismo going on there.

At least back in WW2 fighter jocks flew escort for manned bombers and the manned bombers had like 11 guys on it so you had comradeship there...

Fighter jocks just have always seemed like total cunts to me. Not that I wouldn't want to be one, but still...

It's seriously hard to believe that. Yet again Audie Murphy did something pretty tough.

quote:
Second Lt. Murphy commanded Company B, which was attacked by six tanks and waves of infantry. 2d Lt. Murphy ordered his men to withdraw to a prepared position in a woods, while he remained forward at his command post and continued to give fire directions to the artillery by telephone. Behind him, to his right, one of our tank destroyers received a direct hit and began to burn.
Its crew withdrew to the woods. 2d Lt. Murphy continued to direct artillery fire, which killed large numbers of the advancing enemy infantry. With the enemy tanks abreast of his position, 2d Lt. Murphy climbed on the burning tank destroyer, which was in danger of blowing up at any moment, and employed its .50 caliber machine gun against the enemy. He was alone and exposed to German fire from three sides, but his deadly fire killed dozens of Germans and caused their infantry attack to waver.
The enemy tanks, losing infantry support, began to fall back. For an hour the Germans tried every available weapon to eliminate 2d Lt. Murphy, but he continued to hold his position and wiped out a squad that was trying to creep up unnoticed on his right flank. Germans reached as close as 10 yards, only to be mowed down by his fire. He received a leg wound, but ignored it and continued his single-handed fight until his ammunition was exhausted. He then made his way back to his company, refused medical attention, and organized the company in a counterattack, which forced the Germans to withdraw.
His directing of artillery fire wiped out many of the enemy; he killed or wounded about 50. 2d Lt. Murphy's indomitable courage and his refusal to give an inch of ground saved his company from possible encirclement and destruction, and enabled it to hold the woods which had been the enemy's objective

They have one of Audie's uniforms here at the VA hospital. The man is a legend.

most pilots do have that douche attitude; but some don't. you really get a better understanding if you are actually in the military, though.
