why geeks get the girls

I found this article quite compelling and thought I'd share it with you, to hear your opinions, and to ask jennypie if said assertions are true; of course, jennypie might not be attracted to the geek stereotype, but I think her opinion speaks for the average good-looking-above-average lady

Is smart sexy? Our knee-jerk reaction – reinforced by cultural stereotypes of Star Trek-convention attending geeks and a seeming obsession with ditzy, pretty starlets – would argue otherwise. Nerds are, well, nerds.

But consider Peter Orszag. As director of the US Office of Management and Budget, he is the nation's most powerful pencil-pusher. Yet Orszag was recently named one of the hunks of Washington DC . "He's made nerdy sexy," Barack Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, said of the 40-year-old, glasses-wearing son of a maths professor.

They may be onto something.

More than 200 women watched a series of these videos before rating each man's intelligence, attractiveness, creativity and appeal for a short-term or long-term relationship.

While the difference between short- and long-term mates may amount to a boozy decision students face each weekend, it has some evolutionary significance, Prokosch says. In potential husbands, women look for signs that a man might be a good provider and father. In one-night stands, women are on the prowl for little more than good genes, not to mention a good time.

Women proved to be decent judges of intelligence, with their scores generally matching each man's intelligence test results.

As for picking a bed-mate, the men's actual smartness proved a reliable indicator of their appeal for both brief hook-ups and serious relationships - which came as something of a surprise. Other studies have suggested that, for women anticipating short-term relationships, a man's braininess isn't foremost in their minds.

it's just because girls have finally realized that geeks make all the money lol

Geeks get the women who are unmarried in mid to late twenties and older when lots of women start to realize that if they want to have kids it's in their interest to find a guy who is stable, financially solvent, and reliable -- regardless of how "fun" and physically attractive he is.

There's a very good book on this topic, and I wish I could remember its name. But, personally, I must say its true... after I became more of an upbeat pretentious smart-arse, I got some extra popularity points among the girls.

Though it's no use now <3

I believe we are all a bit geeky to be logged in on a Friday night/Saturday morning on a forum posting our ideas and sharing our views :p

Let me shake that hand, sir. :)
