Dude, any ing car would be completely screwed in that kind of situation. I didn't believe it, but SmartCars perform far better than most cars in your "average" accident. Head-on collisions and side collisions are top-notch. Here's proof:

I hate heads that drive there smart cars around and brag that they are saving the environment. Hopefully it was ne of those idiots in the car.

well it can't be worse than a saturn. that just flies apart like glass.
i got into an accident with a friend driving one a couple of years back. the other car side-swiped us on the passenger side, where i was sitting, and completely obliterated the door/front-quarter panel.
i'm not talking about a dent, or a crack, this flew apart like a firework and i had to get out from the driver's side. but it was just a gentle side-swipe. barely nicked us.
