hey MarkT...

I am not assuming anything...I am asking the question..if the guy only wants to play for 2 hours...fine..then just ing say it...

as for the $ reason Shaya...I have no idea how it works...but if he is all the way here...how much more can it cost?

I can explain why very easily. I started my set at 4:10am (because porter was doing so well I gave 1/3 of my set time away to accommodate him and his fans)..It was the only right thing to do and I understand that more than anyone. But when your set is that late and you only really have like 45 minutes to get a crowd moving and liking your style is quite difficult. Especially after porter which I enjoyed immensely!

I think due to my lack of playtime (busy) you actually haven’t seen me spin anywhere else. Maybe you have maybe you haven’t, but I will make a note of it and invite you out the next big gig that comes my way :)

But as for fly on the wall... honestly dude..., here is a perfect example of why someone would want a shorter set time...

I booked that lutzenkurchen party on Sunday and lutzen only wanted 1.5 hours.. and I brought the guy all the way from Germany and paied a buttload. He wanted this as he could play a more impactful set with all the goodies jammed in. Djs do this sometimes as the sets, when shorter (for certain styles) are more fun and engaging. Ps did you see me on that flyer? Looks like I book parties I don’t play at and play parties I didn’t book...

I had asked to extend klephs set time as I understand he is in demand and you guys would love to see him a little longer, trust me I’m with you on making this party the best it could be.

Thank you. I appreciate that.
I may make it for Friday - but most likely not. (Im trying to have a non-club weekend :p )

And with that I'll leave this roll call and hopefully the thread will get back to some Kleph hype :)

Thank you for that....

I can understand that a DJ might want a shorter set....then it becomes a decision that the promoter has to make as to whether it's all worth while....I can't imagine booking that Skybar guy you mentioned if you have to cover his expenses....I would have just said no....

I hope the party on Friday will be a good one....

I am in!

another great booking Anas!

I'm in, even if the Man plays for 15 minutes! It's about time someone brought him to Toronto!

stop crying people, seriously.

IIRC, we only got ~2 hours (if that) of Plump DJs at TIL last week when 3+ would have been nice for such established guys who don't exactly get booked all the time either (first time in 10yrs, AFAIK...?).

apparently they shut it down because "last call was done an hour ago and there's not enough people". when i spoke with them at the end they said they'll be back in 6 months.

this is london can suck my nut, even though it was awesome, it was way too ing short. why the would they even come to toronto just to spin 2 hours. why bother???

same with bass kleph??

nice meeting you mark, sorry about drinking all your beer lol
i love you baby
Whenever we book a headline dj at Footwork, they get to play for as long as they want. In this case, its 2-2.5hrs. Keep in mind that once the get here they often play longer if they're into it. It has nothing to do with more hrs = more $. Most of these guys have a preferred set length is all. It's pretty common for the closing dj to get bumped because the headliner isn't ready to quit, but if we can't guarantee it, we can't announce it as such...

Hope that explains things!

although what you say makes sense...and I thank you for clearing it up...2 to 2.5 hours for a headliner....especially one from out of town/country....seems really short in comparison to what we experience at other clubs...

I think getting a better understanding from these guys and being able to advertise it...would stop the moaning from people like me and maybe get a few more bodies through the door....remember, most people will not give you feedback...they will simply pass up your event for something that they deem to be better value for money...

Toronto crowds are kind of weird in the sense of wanting ridiculously long sets.

Think of every live set you've ever downloaded or heard outside a Toronto club. How long are they, typically? I don't know about you guys, but most of the ones kicking around here are anywhere between 45 minutes and 3 hours. I've got some longer ones - notably from the bigtime house DJs who love to play extended sets like Danny Howells, David Morales, etc., but I think the vast majority are approximately 1 hour.

I'm with Mark - there are very few DJs I'd even want to hear for more than 2 hours. Longer than that and they either have to change styles or play a lot of filler tracks. Someone mentioned Steve Porter earlier - he's a perfect example, great DJ but his extended sets always have too much filler and generally feel too long, his best sets are all 1-2 hours long.

For a breaks DJ in particular, 2 hours is actually pretty long. If it's a really good set then it's hard to keep up the energy (both for the DJ and the people dancing) for much longer. I would have liked to see Plump DJs play for 3 hours last week, considering how rarely they visit, but I still recognize that it was a standard set length for them.

Same goes for Kleph. I am fairly certain that 2 hours is the amount of time he actually wants to play for, and if he goes longer than that it will likely be at the request of the club/crowd or a spur-of-the-moment thing.

People should learn the concept of quitting while they're ahead, rather than running a good thing ragged until they're too bored/tired to stick around any longer.

geebus!
another great thread.

Anas keep up the phenomenal work buddy. I told you this on Skybar and I'll keep repeating it. You are doing things RIGHT! keep it up.

Unfortunately as much as I'd love to come out and support I have to work till midnight and then again at 7am which means I'm out :( which sucks cuz the one thing missing on Sunday was Anas behind the decks :)
