|| Jin Choi ||
Jin Choi is a musician, producer and live artist based in Cologne, Germany. In his music he equally focuses on groove and melodic structures, which are based on Techno, Minimal and Dub House. The sound fuses electronic and naturalistic sounds, which are twisted, bended and whirled for an always bubbling and breathing rhythmic experience. Functionality does not necessarily stand in the spotlight in his tracks - his music is supposed to touch emotionally and to move the head and the body as well.

|| Ariel Frank ||

Ariel Frank is a Co-Partner with Mathias Matthew on the Chicago based Label and Promotion Agency, Migrashun (Migrashun.com). The particular sounds in his sets transcend from the 14 years he spent between Cannes (southern France), Rome, and Tel-Aviv. Currently based in Chicago, Ariel plays Deep-Tech, Tech-House, and Techno which come together to create a sunny atmosphere.
His musical background stems from an early interest in composing and playing guitar. || Derek Fox ||
Detroit’s desolate industrial landscape gave rise to a cornucopia of electronic music as well as providing multiple unique underground dancefloors. Derek Fox began exploring this underground in 1997. One year later he started experimenting with sound through Djing and production. In 1999 he began venturing out into the playing field. Since then Derek Fox has played at many venues throughout Detroit. The world famous Motor Lounge, The State Theatre, Bleu, The Works, Northern Lights, Exodus Lounge, ClubOneX, CityClub, Russel Industrial, and countless other warehouse venues, are some of the Detroit hot spots that he has entertained. Derek held a residency at Detroit’s premier afterhours location, ‘The Works’, for 2 years. In 2006 he was invited and honored to play the Paxahau hosted ‘Movement Festival’ in Detroit also known as D.E.M.F.
Through meticulous technical precision and profound imagination Derek creates an intoxicating audio environment. He features a track selection spanning from techno to house and everything in between. In addition, Derek uses midi controllers and a wide range of effects to dissect tracks and manipulate intensity. His artistic motivations accompanied by scientific application enable him to maneuver fluently through the sound-scape. Derek is known for his diverse sets and his ability to adapt to a crowd.
MORE ON DEREK …
Earlier this millennium, Derek was employed by the world renowned record labels ‘Plus 8’ and ‘Minus’ to assist with event production. The ‘Plus 8 Ten Year Anniversary’ party was one of many that Derek has contributed to. He also assisted Richie Hawtin in producing his Detroit exclusive ‘Control’ events. In the year 2000, Derek assisted in the production of the very first D.E.M.F; as well as the second in 2001.
From 2004- 2006 Derek Fox was the promoter and host of the monthly event Departure held in Detroit. After ending his 2 year run with Departure, he partnered up with friend and colleague Mathias Matthew to begin the Brio project. The Drip events hosted by Brio brought a new unique spin to Detroit’s electronic community. They used blank canvas venues to emphasize focus on the performers while complimenting the venue with minimal eccentric visuals. Unfortunately, due to relocation and career priorities the Brio project’s Drip events were placed on hold. In 2009, Derek began promoting a summer deck party held in downtown Detroit called Sunday Skool, which was the last of his Detroit ventures.
In August of 2009, Derek relocated to Chicago. He immediately rejoined his colleague, Mathias Matthew, and became a member of the ‘Migrashun’ roster. Derek also became acquainted with the ‘Elevate Chicago’ promotion group and established a Saturday night residency at the world renowned club RED NO. 5. Although Derek hasn’t released any tracks recently, look for new releases in 2009.

Preview: Jin Choi/Rednofive
Electronic/Dance, House, Techno
RECOMMENDED - Jin Choi
Lovers of deep house and techno have probably heard of Jin Choi thanks to his recent releases on Archipel and Lessizmore, or high-profile collaborations and remixes with the likes of German techno star Daso or French trio dOP. Through his productions, Choi mines for emotion with every deep tool at his disposal, including Castilian-sounding guitars, jazzy interludes, heartfelt vocals and static and fuzz, but mostly with his hypnotic sense of rhythm. And now, thanks to Migrashun, the Korean by way of Cologne will make his Chicago debut with a live performance as part of two exclusive US dates (the other being in Detroit, natch). Migrashun residents Arial Frank and Daniel Fox provide additional deck support alongside special guest Aran Daniels—a Detroit DJ who excels in moody, slow-burn techno. Tonight’s show at Redno is the fifth show for Mathias Matthew’s fledgling Migrashun crew, who most recently gifted Chicago with the debut of Swiss artist Ripperton. Here’s hoping they can continue bringing sophisticated international acts for Chicago’s discerning dance-floor fiends. (Duke Shin)
