Think I might have a staph infection

Yesterday I had this bump on my elbow that was oozing a bit of pus. I popped it, thinking it was just a pimple. After I did that, it has gotten more painful ever since, especially when I put any pressure on it. There is also a slight redness around the elbow, like a rash.
Obviously I am going to the doctor. But before that, COR medical experts, is there anything less scary that it could be?

| That is serious, you'd better cut off your arm before it spreads. |

I had one once on the inside of my upper thigh. It started off as a red pimple and by the next morning it was the size of a quarter and had some pus coming out of it. Not knowing any better, I dismissed it and went to work. By the end of the evening, the swollen area was the size of an apple and I started to get a fever. The next morning, it was the size of a mango, with the center abcess about the size of a large egg.
I went to the doc and got an injection of antibiotics, and a perscription for 2 more heavy duty ones. Within a week the residual swelling went down, but the egg-sized central abcess remained. It was difficult and painful to walk, as the ing thing was right on the inside of my upper thigh.
It was definitely better after that week, but no where near healed yet. But I went to WMC anyways. The first night, it held up alright. I carried a shoulder bag everywhere with my antibiotics, and with medical tape/5" gauze pads/sanitizer in case it started to drain.... which it did, on the second night. I had to go into club bathrooms every 30-40 minutes, rip off the tape and bandage, flush it, and then apply a fresh one, all while trying to keep blood/pus from dripping down my leg. I did that about 6-7 times over the course of the night, and let me tell you it wasn't ing pretty. Thankfully I had the good sense to shave off most of the hair where I was anticipating bandaging, because it was painful to rip off all that tape every 30 minutes (I had to tape that thing up tight to keep it from draining all down my leg).
After a few hours of misery it was done draining, and much of the remaining swelling had subsided. The rest of the conference turned out great. |

This is nowhere near that ugly, at least not yet. It hurts pretty badly, but is not much to look at.
It's not oozing at the moment. Yesterday it was just like you said, a little pimple. |

Looks like a pimple to me
Disinfect it regularly. If you start to get inflammation then it's probably infected and you may need antibiotics. Most likely not but good to check with a GP anyway. |

You are in medicine, right?
I've never had a pimple anywhere near this painful before. The pain comes mainly when I put any pressure on the elbow. The rest of the time it feels a little numb and tingly. |
