Street racing cases may get thrown out after Ont. law ruled unconstitutional (pg. 2)

I think 120 outside of built up areas isnt too unreasonable. Especially on the 401 past london and past cobourg. Id also make the minimum speed there 100 and enforce it. We also need more enforcement on the left lane hoggers.

Speeding is such a sexy and politically opportune way to demonstrate you are "doing something about the problem" while making a heap of easy cash.

depends on where on hwy7. if you are around bayview or leslie or kennedy or hwy48 then that is ridiculous. if she was around dufferin or keele where there are many lanes then i can understand. however, she knew the limit was 80km/h so why the was she going 130 in the first place? she should know that if she got caught then she should get whatever the law says.

I believe the article said Kaladar (neer tweed). Hwy 7 out there is in the middle of nowhere.

yeah but it is still against the law to go that fast out there. unfortunately we dont have the luxury of driving at speeds we feel is right wherever we feel is right.

I see no problem with taking away someone's licence but I do agree taking away the vehicle is excessive. I still believe the penalties for excessive speeding are not harsh enough.

But she was passing a truck apparently in a lane of opposing traffic. A little different from outright "speeding" or "stunt" racing

the limit is 80.. passing at 130 is a little excessive.
when you have to go that fast to pass it usually means the vehicle in front of her was probably already going 100-110.

or a car appeared in the oncoming lane and she had to boot it.

I know when i pass a truck especially (since they are big) i tend to go at least 30 over and depending on the circumstance i might hit 50 if a car suddenly appears over a hill or coming out of a driveway.

But thats for the court to decide. Not some roadside cop with the power to take away your car.

Lol wtf
Have u ever tried passing a long truck in on coming lane going just 20 km faster than what the truck is going? Buddy you will die before you pass that truck, if there is an oncoming car you have to accelerate to at least 40 km faster to pass it quickly and safely
Then you slow down, after passing the car

the safe way to do it would be to wait until the oncoming car has passed before you pass the slow bastard. she got ed by the cop because she chose the quick method.

many of our roads are not ready for high speeds either. the only one i can see working is 407 otherwise too many of our population are still slow drivers.

as for the autobahn, it was built specifically for that reason. imagine we decided one day to make our highways unlimited speed limit? it would be a disaster. if we built a new highway specifically for unlimited speed then it might work but we have no space for it.
hate to bump this...but thats a crock.

we have some of the most well paved and straight highways anywhere.

spd is NOT the problem at all. its a stupid cash grab bs law.

agreed
the only 2 highways that are realistically not suitable for high speed are dvp and gardiner.

DVP is suitable for about 110. Gardiner I would say 120.

Pretty much every freeway in Ontario is underposted by 20-30 kph.
