For DJ Hero, ironically.

edit... that's right, it was GTA.

Surely no one is going to make $1,000,000 off Beatport alone. Beatport has to figure ways to be the destination for music downloads for far more people for EDM tracks to get there through Beatport alone. Like I said earlier, EDM artists who build snowballs (multi faceted revenue stream) do make nice through EDM.

Snowballs...being the key word.

Yeah, I agree, we're on the same page. I was simply referring to album sales alone. Total artist income would include touring, merchandising, etc. The artist money is in touring and merchandising, not record sales, so in that respect EDM is no different than Rock music.

Yup...EDM tracks even showing up in Video Games and Video commercials. So again it goes back to those factors I listed earlier, and many others that can get an EDM track well into 6 figure earner for artists who make the type of music that has mainstream appeal.

Pjanooo was on Grand Theft Auto commercially recently.

And a Justice track was on a Assassins Creed 2 trailer recently.

Lots of "DJs" now are simply producers trying to promote their own tracks (or tracks on their labels) and "get their name out there" so people will buy more of their own records. Has really degraded DJing as a profession, IMO. Instead of a general search for good music it becomes an exercise in self-whoring and the promotion of fads.

You sound damn grumpy, and your views I can only hope are shared by as few people as possible because they're usually negative, and this has been consistent from you.

I am a pretty grumpy guy, no doubt about that. Mostly just on message boards, though. I am much more pleasant in person. :-P

A person with dependents might want to consider choosing a more reliable source of income than DJing, or getting an additional job. ;-)

Yah, its hard to be a successful EDM artist if you dont come from a trust fund, inheritance, mom/dad is rich and bought a nice studio background. For me, its DIY as it can get, and when there is some help, its a loan that needs to be paid back.

:whip:

Though, on the bright side...any bit of success is rather enjoyable :D
