I wanted to get VIOS/UVERSE/DISH...

but where I live the only thing available is TWC...not a big fan of their pricing.

U-Verse rocks!

FIOS is the best choice if you have it; best internet and good HD.

If not, get cable ONLY for internet, then get satellite.

Dish has the better quality HD and better DVR (plus the new DVR is a Slingbox). DirecTV is better if you want sports.

I've been doing research on this lately because I'm trying to find a decent priced DVR service, and I'm shocked about all the horror stories I've read about Dish and Direct TV customer service! I've also read many negative comments about U-verse's growing pains atm and FIOS isn't in my neighborhood yet. I feel like I'm SOL because Charter is the last option left and their features/price ratio totally sucks compared to other service providers

Everything has bad customer service now and then. Considering you have two big choices, if you want one you will have to choose.

DirecTV if you like sports, Dish if you like HD. Just base your decision on that.

Based on what I've read, the customer service with Dish and Direct TV is ALWAYS bad and starts already on the day of installation :( Some of the antics they've pulled on customers don't even sound legal! As much of a tomboy as I am, Sports and HD are not factors for me :) How many channels I can record or recond & watch at the same time are.

Time Warner's customer service sucks as well. As a friend put it, they are the Mercury Insurance of cable companies. I tried to call them to cancel today and was put on hold forever. I'll probably just walk into their store, cancel and hand them their receiver and modem.

Looks like I may just go with Direct TV (or maybe Dish), but both require a 24 month contract (you can move service if you move. No contract with Time Warner but you are paying more for less it appears.

satellite companies do all sorts of gimmicks where you can get free hbo for 6 months or showime for a penny for a year etc. if youre gonna sign a contract, make sure they take care of you for at least a few months if not the 1st year!

TWC DVRs are a joke if that matters. Thats why I'm running a TiVo. I think DirecTv is going back to TiVo from what I have heard.

Then Uverse might be best for you. I heard you can record 2 HD and 2 SD programs at once and play shows on any TV regardless of where you recorded them.

It's been too many years since I had DirecTV, so I don't remember their customer service. Dish Network is relatively poor for sure. Time Warner is a bit better but still not that great. For cable, if you can call your local office, you always get better service than the 800 number. For satellite, the installers are subcontractors that Dish is trying to jack every way, and they try to cut corners wherever they can. I did get decent service from one earlier this year; they even asked that I call them instead of DIsh if I have any problem (888-717-7267 if anyone is interested).

DirecTV...they have a vice grip of any transplant NFL fan. I mean, I can watch east coast football (Redskins) from the comfort of my couch, instead of dropping money and getting bombed on a Sunday at a sports bar.
