How does sharing on Google Reader help?
Well, it depends on what you're doing that for. Sharing stuff on Google Reader makes sense only if you subscribe to different RSS feeds that are relevant to your readers. You can then create a new RSS feed with this content, and have a dynamic news section in your blog, for example.
Do you guys post updates on Twitter?
No, I post mainly aphorisms.
What is this whole business of RSS Feeds?
They're the best thing since sliced bread. Suppose I like your blog and want to be told about the next updates. All I have to do is subscribe to the feed and - voila - I know not only that you did update your blog but the context of your post and when it came out. And, the good thing about it is that I can do that to literally dozens of blogs/newspapers/courses!
For example, I subscribe to the RSS feeds of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (so I know about new entries and updates as they're posted), the science column from the Guardian (the least bad science journalism out there, apparently), and a few blogs in linguistics, so I know what other linguists are talking about.
What are the ways to spread awareness about your blog?
Exchange links with similar blogs and write interesting content i.e. let people know your blog exist, and give them a reason to read what you write :p

Put adds somewhere in your blog and, if this applies, sell stuff :p |

Too many blogs.
Who ever knew there were so many self-important narcissists eager to unleash their profundity on the world? |

Not all bloggers try to change the world. Sometimes it's just a way of sharing about one's life (and, if you're not interested, there's nothing to prevent you from not reading it).
I really can't understand why there's so much hate and unfounded criticism about new trends. It reminds me of some Greek philosopher I loathe that said books are a poor way of teaching because being there with the teacher is far superior, thus making books almost useless.
Yeah, right. Look at us now, you liberator of cave dwellers  |

Yeah, I must be like Socrates and hate all modern technology because I think there are too many bloggers. Anyone who criticizes any modern trend is a fuddy duddy on every front. Stellar reasoning there. |
