What's slowing me down?

Hi guys,
Recently I've been having problems with my pc performance whilst working on a project. It's causing the busiest parts of the track to be nearly inaudible as the audio lags and distorts. I have tried upgrading my memory but this hasn't made much difference. I am using Cubase SX3 and the VSTs that are using the most CPU in the project are Omnisphere and Vanguard. Below are my specs:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800 2.51 GHz processor
4 GB Corsair XMS2 DHX 6400C4 DDR2 memory
Asus M2N SLI-Deluxe motherboard
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card
Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT graphics card
160 GB Seagate Maxtor STM3160215AS 7200 RPM C drive (internal)
120 GB Seagate ST3120827AS 7200 RPM D drive (internal)
500 GB Seagate FreeAgent 7200 RPM F drive (external)
Windows XP Home
Does anyone have any ideas as to what needs upgrading the most?
Thanks in advance,
Phil |

I was about to suggest more RAM but 4 gigs is more than enough.
No clue what could be causing it. My projects do the exact same thing, I've learned to work through it. |

more RAM and two hard drives if it's in your budget. or make one yourself (clone). Or get yourself a Corsair XMS2

I'd say you should buy yourself a new computer. Or you should at least have two computers, one for work, one for play.
good luck :) |

| More RAM will not do any good considering XP only utilizes about 3,5 GBs max, and even if it did Cubase only adresses something like around 2 GB. |
