The only track in this mix (acquiescence 2) that I owned in 2005, was the John Dahlback song, and I didn't get a chance to play it until i opened for Gabriel and Dresden in December of that year.
Tracks 3 and 6 were bought in 2006 and only played once. Track 2 was bought in 2007 and only played in Colombia. Everything else was purchased last year or this year. The reason, again, that all of these appeared on this mix was because the point of this mix, was to be an all vocals mix. Not a same old mix, not a latest and greatest.
So I ask you, which of these tracks have been the same old tracks since '05? I can certainly pull up the tracklisting on the ten or so other mixes I've recorded since then and pose the same question. :)
How about knowing what you are talking about. im just sayn' |

I am seriously thinking about making a Jaren Mix. My girlfriend really loves her and I think it would be a nice gift. We also got to meet and hang out with Matt and Jaren last year when Matt spun at Aura in Dallas.
They were so nice and fun to hang out with. |

transatlantic you played @ PVD (05) and you included it in this mix. perhaps some other mix i cant recall at the moment. but there are other tracks that youve recycled that i cannot recall due to the lack of your sets that i own.
these are just a few of the patterns ive noticed in your sets. i also notice you still play the same old artists but new tracks they produce. your sound hasnt evolved since pvd. im just sayin. |

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. So whatever you say boss, sure. I remember seeing you at all the opening events I played in Austin and San Antonio, the one in Miami, and all 3 sets in Colombia. So yeah..you have a viable point.

Everyone has an opinion. Some people ask me to play more vocals, others ask for more instrumentals. Some want me to play more trance, other progressive, and other more minimal. I've learned you can't please everyone.

Well for one I learned how to mix harmonically. How did I learn to do that? Well there's books written on the subject, and here's a good website. http://www.harmonic-mixing.com/ All I did to the tracks was identify the key they are in :)

|
I make sure every track I mix into will be in a compatible key. If you played a set where all the tracks are in the same key, it will get a bit boring. Again, the website spells out the basics. If you really want to delve into harmonic mixing, then I recommend investing in a few music theory courses.

Alot of similar tracks appeared on Acquiescence 2 because I was making an 'all vocals' mix. I don't have very many vocal tracks in my collection because I don't like a majority of them. The world is mie appeared in only one other set, as well as till there was you. I have never played the remix of Silence or any other version of it in any other sets or live events :) It came out earlier this year if Im not mistaken.

So playing a track in 2005, and then including it in a mix in 2008 is considering a pattern?

Again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I select tracks to purchase, and to play out based on 1) if I like the track, 2) will it work in a mix with the other tracks I have in mind for the mix, and 3) will it work for the timeslot I've been given, the venue I'm playing at, and the crowd for said venue. If a track gets a replay whether its the next night, the next week, near year or 3 years down the road, its because I liked the track and I felt it was the right place, right crowd, and right time to play the song. Its called subjective preference.
As far as the artists I choose from, I dont specifically go and hunt down every track an artist I like puts out. Because their is no single artist out there that I like all of his or her tracks. I listen to hundreds and hundreds of track and might put 100 in my crate to purchase. Then I listen to all of then and narrow it down to 50, and then 25. And it will be those 25 I take to a show along with material I purchased in the past.
But guess what Lizandro. You're opinions and criticisms of what I call my life's work is simply that, you're opinion. You can't make me look bad anymore than the pieces of that lied to Sean Carnahan and others behind my back and had the gall and audacity to pretend to be my friends to my face.
Back then I was trying to get somewhere and be somebody as a DJ. I got addicted to having roomfuls of people at my fingertips and having the crowd jumping. Hell, I could have played the same track twice in a set and 90% of them wouldn't of noticed. They just liked the music I selected to play at that particular set, and it's only those people that I try to reach and make proud. The haters... em.
If you really wanna nitpick and try to make some more criticisms that really won't make a bit of difference, here... I'll post every last tracklist and you can tell me how much of a hack, recycler, or whatever the f*ck you wish to label me as :) |
