USB Flash Drive = Can't read it - HELP!
View this Thread in Original format

Ok so all of a in sudden my laptop will not read ANY flash drive. I tried 8 different ones...no dice. It was all fine up until today. I didnt do anything, so no clue what the problem is. I tried all 3 ports and nothing.

I tried all of these on the desktop and they are all fine.

One difference I am running vista on the laptop and xp on desktop. But either way, it worked fine up until today.

Anyone have any suggestions?

put your flash in, go to control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager: look to see if you have any yellow warnings

yeah did that..nothing.

Let me clarify..

I see the drive, but when i go to open it, it asks me to format it. Even when I try to format as it asks, it will not format.

EDIT: great! I just checked the media card reader, and that won't read anything either. I put in an SD card and when I try to open it, it asks to be formated as well.

WTF?!

The same thing happened to me on my notebook - Try plugging something else into the USB port and post back what happens.
