I checked that first. But for some reason they (sony) don't have keyboard drivers for my model. I've downloaded some other drivers (motherboard, touchpad, system control or whatever) drivers without any discernible difference in performance and without fixing my problem.

by the way, my model is the Sony Vaio VGN-CS290. |
The SCM driver is the one that adds the functionality of the FN key. |

Also, lol at my desktop bluescreening twice while I'm away. I'd turn the monitor back on and it'd have this message saying it's recovered from an unexpected shutdown and that the type of shutdown was bluescreen.
This is with a cleaaaan install of 7 Ultimate.
Then just now I had to emergency shutdown my desktop because it was lagging to the point in which I couldn't even get to the area to do a normal shutdown.
Definitely have some bugs to work out. |

| Interesting. I wonder if it is a driver issue. Go to start, right click computer and click manage. Go into the event viewer and it should say what crashed or caused the crash. |

| i just updated to windows 7 x86 today. i like it so far. i do have a gripe about the lack of customization features for the start menu bar. haven't ed with too much else yet. it is definitely much faster- FL studio projects and other random programs open noticeably quicker. haven't had a driver or hardware issue yet either. |

What made you load x86 as opposed to 64bit? |

I get a free copy of 7 Professional from my school. It's pretty nice, I like it quite a bit. One thing that bugs me, however, is the exponential amount of time that it takes to copy many files from one directory (or drive) to another. On Ubuntu it doesn't take near that long to copy something.
For example, I'll have a 30 MB folder with about 1000 items in it. It estimated TWO HOURS to finish. No way it should take 2 hours to copy 30 megabytes, I don't give a how many files there are. |

That sounds very weird, definitely shouldn't be happening.
I've been toying around with Win7 a couple of days now and it seems to be working fine. The start menu/toolbar took a bit of getting used to but I think I'm getting the hang of it now. |

well, i was under the assumption that you can't upgrade a 32bit OS to 64bit (i was running vista 32bit); also while my processor is an athlonx2 64 and i have 4 gigs of ram, i figured my hardware couldn't handle it as well as a solid desktop.
furthermore i keep reading about how a lot of 32bit software won't work in a 64bit environment, and vice-versa. and i also read that there isn't a whole lot of 64bit software being created yet- so pretty much, when 64bit software becomes more mainstream, then i'll update.
i was mainly concerned that my DAWs, ASIO drivers, and traktor wouldn't work anymore (which they do). i had to update and reinstall VirtualCloneDrive, for example. i also had a version of Alcohol120% that i had to straight-up uninstall before windows 7 would even let me complete the installation. |
