New Blackberry Messenger / Blackberry Questions?

The new blackberry messenger has come out. Has anyone installed it yet? Someone told me that you have to re-add all your contacts on there when you do.

Which brings me to another question.

I've never hooked the blackberry up to the computer before. I'm trying to do it now, unsuccessfully as of yet. I'm confidant I'll get it eventually.

Is there a way to organize my contacts when I hook the blackberry to the computer? What I want to do it fix all my contacts so they all have a phone number, email, aim, pin, gmail, etc. Whatever info I have for each person. Right now I have ppl on my bbm and aim, but don't have that info saved with each contact.

Is there an easy way to do that?

ya still need help??

i would highly recommend not downloading any 3rd party updates for your blackberry messenger. My friend downloading something to update her bbm and it worked. Although after a week...ALL her contacts were deleted. Im just waiting for ATT to release something official.

I really still need help! eek!

I have the blackberry curve by sprint. I've never happened to hook it up to the computer before. Now I'm trying to and the blackberry software says disconnected, device connected pin NONE.

I've tried 2 different computers and many different usb cords.

What do you think is wrong with it?

are you using apple or windows?

Did you use the disc that came with your bb or a 3rd party program?

I had to restore my bb once. I spoke to bb support on the phone. Instead of using the disc, they had me use the updated program from the bb support site. I would suggest calling and telling them you need bb support. You have to hold for almost an hour but when you get through and they give you a code, you call back and get help right away.

Do not just back up your contacts, back up everything- email, text, pics, vids, everything gets deleted if the numbers get deleted. I agree with the other poster, don't add anything that isn't authorized.

pffft BBM 5.0 got leaked like 2 months ;)

But, if you download blackberry manager, there is a backup option which basically backs up everything (texts, emails, contacts, settings, basically everything)

not your pics and wallpapers which are saved on your memory card anyways

it even backs up your PIN, because if you get a new blackberry it comes with a new pin for bbm, so when u restore the backup file it it will have your old bbm.

when i upgraded to 5.0 a while back it still had all my contacts, but i have verizon, though i dont think that makes a difference.

the only thing that doesnt get backed up is your apps, if you downloaded apps then got a new blackberry and restored the image you'd still have to download all the new apps, even facebook, and that stuff

Windows, and I downloaded the BlackBerry Desktop Manager from the blackberry website. I'm not sure where the disc is.

Yea I want to back everything up. But the pesky thing won't connect. I hope I can get it to work. I've never backed it up and I can just picture the nightmare it would be to have to load all that information manually if something bad ever happened. :nervous:

Check out those links ( i hope they somewhat help). As for your computer not recognizing your phone...Do you even get a pop up that your computer recognizes new hardware?

That is why you need to call. I had that problem when they restored me. I had to call from a different phone and they worked on their end, then had me do things with the bb before connecting.

Thanks guys.

thedevastation: no, I don't even get the pop up in windows that I've connected something. But the phone lights up when I plug it into the computer and then again when I unplug it.

yumpop: thanks. I'm gonna give them a call. When you called for support did you speak with blackberry or your phone company?

I called AT&T, they connected me to bb support, ran by bb. I was given a code and had to hold for more than an hour.
