HELP! Questions with Hospital/Medical bills from night of Tiesto...

So apparently the Thursday Tiesto was playing here in NYC, I decided to drink... a lot. Being irresponsible, I must've had at least 5+ shots, 4+ Long island Iced Teas and a few beers... everything else I had, i couldn't tell you all since I blacked out HARD that night. SO, as the night progresses, I black out (Not responding, highly intoxicated blacked out)... somehow get taken into an ambulance (Which i don't remember), and get taken into the Emergency Room at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center (yet again, I don't remember any of this). I Vaguely remember puking into a bucket with at least 5 people around me trying to hold me down. Fast forward to morning, I wake up in ER, ask myself WTF?!? then leave with signing discharge papers, only being told that I drank too much the night before...

Fast forward to today. Get a bill from the Hospital for $400, and from the Ambulance Corp. for $543. The dilemma here is that i'm not sure as to if my Insurance will and SHOULD cover all of this? Or should I pay out of pocket, the $943 in 2 seperate checks. Take in mind, I am only 20 years old (Yes, flame on) and my parents are unaware of ANY of this situation.

So if anyone can help me out on what to do, i'd really appreciate it. I'm under my father's Insurance, and I do have health insurance. Just not sure whether I should fill out the back of the papers with the info and have the Insurance company take care of it, or if I should just pay it straight up. Thanks for any advice...

always let the hospital try to bill your insurance. At the very least you will get whatever discount your insurance normally gets. Wait for an explanation of benefits to come in the mail from your insurance company regarding all the different charges. An ER visit usually has 3 different bills in the end.

Bill your insurance. Just because you attributed to what happened, it doesn't mean thay won't cover it.

I 3rd that...let insurance handle it.

Gotta be careful when you go out. Take it slow over the night u know.

Well this happened to me once, and since I have learned my lesson. But I was charged three times: 1. for the ambulance, 2. for the ER stay, and 3. for the doctor that saw me in the ER.

But my insurance paid for the entire bill. If you do have to pay anything, it would be just the copay and that amount depends on your insurance.

I'm sure letting your parents find out is probably the bigger issue here... Not sure how much information they release to your insurance, or how much information your insurance will release to the policy holder... But yeah, that's a lot of money, you should tell your parents, you don't wanna work a month or two to pay for that.. That's worse than the 1 or 2 days you'll have to deal with your parents being really pissed off... Or maybe you can make up a story about how you landed in the hospital? Heat exhaustion or something lol...

Well your parents will get the statement, so be wise and tell them the truth. However you look at it, they will find out. Mine found out when I was 15 and came home and threw up in the driveway with them standing there (next morning), so I had no excuse..lol

Under hippa law none of your medical records can or will be released to your parents withouth your written consent. Your insurance company nor the hospital can tell your parents of theevent even though it happened under their ins.

They won't be able to say what happened but when his parents open the hospital bills, they'll know something happened. You get an itemized list of things when the bill comes. It won't say he got wasted at a party but it will show the er visit and whatever tests or medication he was given.

wow sounds like a killer night, haha :toothless man alcohol poisoning to top it all off. they definitely had to pump ur stomach (thank god you dont remember any of that, i hear its as UNCOMFORTABLE as HELL)

if u feel like taking responsibility for ur own actions (AND not telling ur parents what happened -- if i were you i wouldnt want them to learn of this), then pay it off urself -- and in installments if ur able to negotiate some sort of interest-free payment plan. Im sure something can be arranged.

of course i dont think u'll be downing shots like this in the future ;) well i hope the drinks were FREE at least(drinks in NYC can get hella expensive, hehe)

Aaw, this takes me back to when I was a TA in training lol. Blacked out at my first Armin show years ago, possibly while Remy was still opening. Had my insurance card in my pocket though so I was never billed. If that really is the only issue in your case then definitely let the insurance handle it. If it's your parents you're worried about heh... at least the nurses didn't make you call your parents like they did me. :p
