What's happening with Minimoo is that they're doing parties in EU after the Minitek fiasco, from what I heard, they owed so much money they just took off. Jenny sends messages to this day saying that Moo is coming back, but I really don't see it happening anytime soon.
Kel, the scene hasn't really picked up that much, except for Made booking techno now. There's always been weekly techno parties by locals that are so good they are not locals anymore (picked up and went to Germany). A good example is Christian Smith that put together the Tronic Treatment parties, happening every Monday @ Sullivan Room for years. Bill Patrick and co. with the Robots Party, he used to play Twilo and is a great dj, Robots was every week @ Deville and then moved to Cielo, when it became more popular, eventually Bill took off to Berlin. Dinky and Magda used to do parties together here in NYC a looong time ago (until Dinky got deported).
The djs are the same, their careers just grew and NY is too small for them now. It's nice that they come visit every now and then.

I know, thats why I said "there have been no shortage of good parties to attend" (meaning: even before I became interested, I noticed my techno friends always had a place to go....)

Wingman part deux, missed part one? Oh my. I think I missed some good times. I'm ready to make up for that.
Oh well actually we only plotted there being a 1st time. You and Claudia can take on the roles of wingmen 1 and 2. :D

As a matter of fact, I would have to say that the scene has picked up recently! I have noticed more promoters, more venues, more successful events, more names that people want to see.
They are the same promoters from years ago! The only difference is a lot of ppl that weren't interested at all in techno now jumped on the bandwagon (or just developed a more refined taste :p). Le Souk fired many promoters for this very reason, they just didn't want techno. What do you know, they are starting to book techno now
BTW Kel, why don't you join us for happy hour?? :)

I am one who is more available for techno now than before. DNB is pretty dead here and I always liked techno but would only make it for after parties. I know a lot of people who did the same.
Kelly has to because we are doing something on the earlier side and she'll make it to her early Friday in one piece. She has no excuse this time. Hear that, no excuse.

I think the music has changed to a sound that a broader audience can deal with, hence more people "jumping on the bandwagon" and more events that us newbs are interested in.
There is a reason a lot of us didnt go to techno events a few years ago, yet are NOW. Different sounds for different ears ;) and, if you say more people are "jumping on the bandwagon", doesnt that equate to an increase interest?
All of the things you mention (firing promoters, previously no one listening to techno, and now they are looking for techno...signify an increase interest and thus a "pick up" in scene, regardless of who is promoting!) ;) :)
what happy hour are you talking about? I think I skipped those comments LOL ;) whoops :o
