My advice is to get the Creative Inspire 5300,which is a fairly cheap 5.1 system with great sound quality for the money you spend!
I mean you can enjoy great multi-channel sound and you can find them easily..plus they look great too and kick real in the bass!
Search a bit for them and i think you'll be satisfied!

I'm looking at the Creative Inspire 5.1 5700's right now ($238 USD)...and it looks like the Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 510D
blows these outta the water. |

do NOT get the Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 510's.
nononononononononononono
can you say paper cones?
no tweeters
and a crappy sub with horrible crossover freq.
it may have a (relatively) high RMS, but the sound quality sucks. . . the high treble and low bass gets distorted, and the sub is pure crap.
and to top it off, it wont last you more than a year because the paper cones will start to decay by then meaning even crappier sound
hopefully i can prevent a disastor before it happens and someone buys these.
and flystyler. . .the RMS on that system you have is CRAP. . .sounds like you wasted some good $$$. I am sorry about your loss.
Peak means nothing. . . |

You seem to know alot about speakers...then which ones do you recommend (under $300 USD)? Reviews of the Cambridge 501's were pretty good...solid 9's on almost every site. |

Here's the speakers I use:
http://www.monsoonpower.com/mm_demo_mh502.shtml
They're cool because they use flat panels for the treble, but also use a traditional cone speaker for the midrange. Bass is handled by the sub. Although the sub looks small, its pretty powerful for its size. These speakers are perfect for on the computer.. the sound is so clean and crisp. It is very balanced sound. Also the sound card has an effect on sound quality of course... I can recommend the Philips Acoustic Edge 5.1 sound card. Hope that helps you all. And be sure to check out that site I mentioned earlier www.3dss.com the ultimate site for sound reviews.
They cost about $150 CDN retail... and the company is also Canadian if you are interested. |

well if you limit your budget to $300, then you arent going to be able to get something that will sound good for years to come. For that little money on a 5.1` system, you are probably going to get paper cones, a small underpowered sub, and you cant expect the speakers to sound good for much longer than a year before they deteriorate (paper does that. . .)
So my advice to you is to spend the extra $$$ and get a 5.1 system that doesnt have paper cones. they will sound better and last much longer. it doesnt really matter what you buy. some people cant listen to analog systems, some people dont care. It is all about your personal preferences, and your wallet.
or you can go for a 4.1 system. . . you only lose the center speaker. and you can save a lot of money, so you can get better quality 4.1 system for cheaper than a 5.1 system.
But my last post was trying to tell ppl that their money would go down the drain with the soundworks speakers, as they would only last 12 - 18 months.
I personally like the klipsch promedia's, but you might prefer a different speaker. those logitech 4.1's are great for their cost. |

I'll vouch for Monsoon, as I have the MM-1000's (click here) which is a few steps up from the MH-502 I believe. :D
They have very focused sound, designed to sound best right where you sit. They aren't that great if you're listening on the other side of the room, but for sitting at your computer they are amazing! The bass makes the doors (and mirrors!) in my house vibrate when turned up loud. |

ATP5 speakers provided by: Altec Lansing
Whether you’re a huge sound fanatic drooling at the thought of clear tones and rich bass, or just the average Joe looking to play a few mp3’s and a game or two, one thing that adds appeal to any system is great sound. One such manufacture of great sounding speakers is Altec Lansing, last year they produced a kicking system called the ATP3, this time Altec decided to develop and expand it for the gaming segment; it’s name the ATP5. |

Ok Matrix...you have me looking at the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 again...now, what kind of plugs do these take? Will I need to get a Audigy Drive (I have a Soundblaster Audigy MP3+)
And a digital decoder is necessary to use them on TV/PS2?
Sorry, I don't know a WHOLE lot about audio but I'm trying to learn here, I know more than the average person but want to know more :clown: |

Actually, although the 502s are cheaper, they actually sound better to most people. The 1000s came out first, they were Monsoon's first multimedia speaker.. then the 700, 500, 2000, 702, 502, came out in that order. The 2 on the end of those is a revision of the model, with improvements to the flat panel part of the speaker. I've heard the 1000s briefly, they are pretty cool, and they've got more bass than the 502s, but overall I like the sound on the 502s the best, because they've got the cone and the flat on them.
There is also another model, I think the 305 or something like that, that is only available through Future Shop stores, its a unique model. They are a lot like the 502 but you can get them for $80, they are smaller and less powerful.. although I've heard these too, and they are pretty cool. I like their sound better than the Altec Lansing ATP3 (the 2.1 version of the ATP5 I think). |
