BTW, my girl is into EDM too. She just likes the Latin Indie EDM stuff & some cheese.
But everytime I take her to a very hardcore gig like Digweed or Sasha, she freaks.
:toothless |
My wife freaks out at the likes of Digweed and Sasha, but for totally different reasons. In her world it's a load of cheesy crap, she will only barely accept Marco V and SVD.
She thinks that lyrics are too fluffy and unless the bass blows your head off it's a waste of time.
Generally in the UK you get a pretty good split in clubs and I think in general this thread generalises too much. Not to mention one or two really scary opinions on women.
With regards to Gay clubs... you get heaps of straight women and men for that matter who go there because the music is often better than in mainstream clubs in their opinion.
I think it's a pretty fair generalisation to say that men are more active in scenes whatever they may be, but that doesn't mean women are any less into it in other ways.
The difference can often be like this...
A man sees or hears something that he appreciates, he has to copy, immitate and become part of that thing.
A woman can often sit back and enjoy something in a different way but doesn't always feel the desire to be able to master it.
It's just a typical example of men being different from women, and there are always exceptions to everything.
I doubt that the state of affairs as described in this thread by posters is actually related to EDM per se, but rather because EDM is not the main interest at the moment and you get less people generally who will go to EDM nights state side.
The last Trance gig I played was mainly women about 65 to 35 split. The atmosphere was excellent and the dirtier the bass got the more the floor got into it. What was initially billed as a Trance night ended up almost being a full on techtrance night instead. But it's what the crowd wanted.
We started off lighter with funk and vocals, got people into it and then released the mayhem and never saw any reason to look back. It was a good night and everyone was happy.
We had 4 DJs who know how to read the crowd and that makes a world of difference.
Female dancers will often show their lack of interest by leaving the floor or the club all together. Men will challenge the DJ by gestures or walking up with the classic lines like 'when are you going to play something good'.
Celebrate the differences and accept them for what they are, it will make your life simpler and more enjoyable.
Cheers

Ermmm, R&B /pop etc are primarily electronic productions now.
I'd say in the right setting women enjoy EDM just as much as men, definitely the case here anyway, and in IBIZA which is the holiday EDM experience.
But women are'nt so into EDM as background or driving music as they get sick of the thump thump. Is a reaosn why I get fed up with everyone on forums saying you need a bigger more pwerful kick, because in fact the kck ends up dominating everything especially for non dance music addicts.
Gals are'nt into production just as in general they are'nt into tweaking thier car for years on end or fishing. |

| Haha, my gf says that all she can think about in dance music is the kick drum because it's so loud. Part of the loudness contest in dance music is probably this desire to have the biggest, most skull-shattering kick drum in every track. |

To add to that, women are some of the most hardcore EDM fans you will find. I know women who go to their favorite DJs shows religously, they are actually the most loyal fans. They seem to build an attachment, the DJ mesmerizes them at a show and they're hooked. And the OP is ignorant as usual, he thinks all EDM music is instrumental, therefore women dont like it...when the genre he is into is full of vocal tracks :stongue: |
Were you born an or did you just come out of your mothers ass?
Where did I say EDM doesn't have vocals or is only instrumental. Learn to read. Then learn to not make such insane assumptions in an attempt to question somebodies intelligence. I live in Nashville, Tennessee. Quite possibly the worst place in the world to live and love my types of music. I'd be better off in Alaska.
I'm not going to bother addressing your suggestions that I get out more and you trying to tell me how to run my label. You don't walk in my shoes (although you might think you do) and you are extremely hard to be reasoned with. |

why does it matter? since everyone's going on about how "into EDM" they are...you should be at events for the music, not for the girls.
second: i think it's because girls don't get attention at trance events. it's not like an RnB club where all the guys want to grind on you and you get to feel pretty. i was at above & beyond in new york on saturday night, and so many girls were visibly frustrated by the fact that all the guys were so into the music that they wouldn't notice a half-dressed girl.
that said, i know quite a few girls who love listening to trance - it can be very sentimental music. it's just going to a trance event which is a bit unpopular. |

If you are seriously trying to tell us that girls don't like trance events because they don't get enough attention or find it too hard to get picked up, then I must seriously ask how deep you had to reach into your own ass to pull out that nugget.
The only "frustration" I've ever heard expressed from a girl at a trance event (or really any less-mainstream club event) has been over nearly getting gang-raped by the monstrous sausage-fest.
I can actually think of one good reason why so many women aren't that into trance music or producers: they're probably accustomed to the scene being full of hyper-introverted anti-social boys who have these weird warped stereotypical, borderline-misogynystic ideas about girls, and who stubbornly maintain this bizarre pretense of a deep love affair with the music when in reality they're just really high and/or afraid to socialize.
Dance music is about having fun. It's not about staring off into space while imagining yourself to be on a spiritual journey. That's what acid is for. |

Bingo.
You have no idea how many times I have "regulate" when out at an EDM club with my GF. Also the male female interaction as some EDM clubs is way more than I've ever witnessed at other clubs and that goes back to it being about having fun. |

| Digi, thats ur opinion, I am always on spiritual journey when listening to trance, thats why I started producing it in the first place, I wanna create that state of mind for others to enjoy also. Sorry for you if you can't experience that without acid. ;-) |
