I would have to say the Crow soundtrack single handedly had the biggest musical influence over me in the mid nineties. Was really big into NIN and Marilyn Manson. Also listened to some harder stuff like Fear Factory, Incubus, and Helmet. Faith no More, My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and Metallica all remind me of some bands I listened to as well.
Then beleive it or not there was a Baileys commercial with Moby-Porcelin in it, I was captivated. From there I discovered Leftfield, Crystal Method, and Underworld.
By this time the Internet and Napster were really starting to pick up steam in popularity. As I would search for Moby songs I found remixes by a guy named Paul Oakenfold. I quickly realized these remixes were simply amazing and searched for just Paul Oakenfold. From there I learned of a tiny Island called Ibiza, a festival called Creamfields, and a radio show in the UK called the Essential mix. Soon discovered that dance music was actually good and not the euro "gino" crap that I had always hated and often made fun of.
When Radio 1 began streaming their music over Real Player in 2002 the flood gates of dance music opened for me and I have never looked back. Judging from the crap I hear on z103 and edge 102, I dont think I could ever go back even if I wanted to.
