hahahaha nice review :p

there used to be a montreal flyers site that had flyers from all the afterhours. anyone know what happened to that site and if theres something similar elsewhere ?

maybe i am blind, but i did not notice the speedy j night.

it wasn't packed, but by far the best musical experience at this club. I miss it, and it is safe to say no one will put the same amount of effort in booking in mtl anymore.

rightfully so, as much as i would love it, it was not really profitable was it?

I never understood how Aria was loosing money in the beginning? To me the place was packed every weekend! Maybe the trick is to book lesser known but extraordinary artists on special occasions. Those nights tend to attract people no matter who the DJ is.

i don't know about today, but back then the big techno guys that they booked had very very heavy fees.

never forget that montreal is the city that everyone goes out for the show but no one wants to pay. Getting glist at aria was way easier than at any other afterhour joint then and since.;)

also, i saw another pair of 1200's if you don't buy mekroons:p
Ravemontreal
Well Aria sometimes had 2, 3 big names in one single night. They paid those DJs well, and it was a pretty big machine to feed. You rarely had DJ under 5k$ + plane and accomodations.

With no alcohol sales, the break even was very high.

Today, the same DJs come here for 50% or more less. The game has changed.
Dj Nacht
Yeah G-list at Aria was easy but you still needed to be closely connected, unlike most clubs. Whats the deal? Djs are paid 50% less now? for realz?

and btw when i said no one will book like them ever again, i was only referencing afterhours clubs.

There are a few good promotions that still book well imo...but there are circumstances that allow them to do so unlike circus or stereo (no redlite does not deserve mention..oh i just did).

lousi mentionned benson and hedges....without the sponsorships it is even harder...not to mention that afterhours are not as " a la mode" as they used to be.

that being said, without aria, we would not have heard so much good detroit.

i might hate tiesto...but the misstress b (for bitch:p)/tiestor/preach night was pretty epic as well.

In my box of old souvenirs I found the flyer for the official opening weekend at Aria in April 2001. And I remember going to the April 27th night with DJ John Kelley (HighDesertSound, Moonshine guy).
