Houston is getting there quickly as well. almost all the residents are playing the same stuff. At SVD one of the local dj's came up to me when i played Arnej and said why u playing trance.
My response was it's not trance but progressive and i play all sorts of genre's. Im sorry i dont want to be just like you or like all the other Houston Dj's cause then whats the point.
Note to self dont burn cd's on your lap top on ty streets. It may not burn completely or correctly. That was the sudden stop in music ya'll heard was a disc error in the cdj. happens :D |

Even if it was trance that you were playing, what sort of douchebag goes to an SVD show and asks that kind of question? Worried about the future local 'DJ's'. They don't even know how to spell 'genre' |

I would have loved for someone to come up to me after a set saying some like that. Of course, the ass-kicking he would have gotten woulda killed my DJ career in Houston. Like I ever had one in the first place... :P

That's why every CD I burn for playing out is burned at 8x, with no other applications running and the mouse not moving. Sounds like a bit much, but I never risk anything that involves a main room set. |

Matt you know what dj it was that came up to me and said that. they said it to me s soon as i played that arenj track.
It is what it is but i have my own style on how i play and i like it and it seems to work pretty damn well. I don't won't to be a follower. Houston has enough HOUSE dj's and techno dj's and i'm not one of them. i play music i like so i can have a good time listening to it while im playing it. Nothing worse than playing some music that you don't like or can't get into and you just look bored on stage. Not everyone may like what i play and i understand that but other people do and i appreciate it. You can't make everyone happy and you have to know that no matter what your doing in life. |

It it was James Reed, he woulda been dead before he hit the floor pulling that with me. (Yes that is a threat, so off whoever the shoes fits :) ) If it was someone else well....more than likely they were jealous the crowd was dancing to your selection than theirs. You and I have almost the same taste in music. I wasn't booked in Houston at any of Sean Carnahan's after I apparently "upstaged" a few headliners, even though I kept my tempo below 130 and I kept the volume where it needed to be. I couldn't help it if the whole ing room decided to get into it. Whatever, besides the point :) I woulda told whoever it was to off. I can't believe they had the gall and audacity to say anything to you.
As for me, I no longer give a about pleasing anyone other than the people who already like the kind of music I play anyway. Too many times I heard "I dont like vocals, just stick to minimal" "Dude play more vocals!!" "I like the big bassline tracks play more of those!!" "You should keep your sets deeper when you open" ... Well, em. I'm gonna play what I feel suits the moment. It's my set, my subjective programming, my mixing style. Whoever likes it, awesome. Whoever doesn't like it, well, they are more than certainly free to learn DJing like I did and play whatever the hell they want.
I'm done. This was a drunken rant anyway, but alcohol always makes me a little more honest and open. Keep doing what ya do Ben. I'm just jealous you're at where I wish I was. But since you play 75% of the stuff I have, I can't complain :tongue2 |

Thanks bro.
I thought you haven't played out since PVD 05 when your last track you played was brand new PVD track.
I know it fit real well in the set, I was there and i was one of those peeps that was into it and i still listen to that set BTW. But you can NEVER play a headliners song right before them if you want to continue opening for big name dj's or even other dj's that may not have a big name but are still bad asses. From a dj to a person in the crowd, It always sucks to hear the same song 3 times in 1 night.
If you want to play out again I have told you i can get you some gigs. Won't be main stage but i can get you on the patio at bar rio which gets slamming most of the time not that you can't smoke inside. |
