3rd to last track, and it wasn't the original mix. And it had nothing to do with me not playing in Houston since.

There has been confusion over this whole thing about Paul getting pissed from me playing one of his tracks. Not true. After the set, Paul did in fact ask me if I was the one who played this. I admitted to it and apologized that I was trying to hype the crowd for him to come on.

He said it wasn't as big of a deal as it was the Deep Dish remix rather than the original. My logic at the time was that since the remix is 128bpm, he wouldn't of played it. I was also inexperienced at opening up for big names at the time. We all make mistakes, but mine didn't cost me getting to play in Houston after that.

The reasons I haven't been booked in Houston since that gig was that directly after the PvD '05 gig I became the opener at Jojo's Eternal Network events from then up until mid '06 when me and Jojo parted ways. During that time, Sean Carnahan and a few others around him were led to believe that I had moved to Austin and that I supposedly said "I was to good to play in Houston anymore." Someone told that to Sean. There were also numerous lies supposedly being said behind my back. I can't confirm what was said or not as it got back to me from people who could have over-exaggerated them.

Furthurmore, in mid 2006 I took a very long break from the scene following the bull listed above. I have a facebook blog called "How Skydiving Saved My Life" that goes into this further. I turned down 2 opportunities to open for Andy Moor and Thrillseekers in Dallas as I had barely any cash to make ends meet, which was also the time where I sold my CDJ 1000s.

By the time I played in Colombia and started getting back into the music, the scene was run (and still is) by Mike Long who has never seen me open for anyone.

So...wanted to know the real reason I hadn't played at any events since the PvD gig? That's why. :) It certainly wasn't because I played a remix of his song.

With all do respect miss...before you say "big no-no, sorry Matthias" You need to be aware of the full facts as I very well recollect them.

As I stated above and to hopefully set the record straight The 3rd from last track was a 128bpm DEEP DISH REMIX of The Other Side.
Here's the tracklist, I know because the set was recorded :)

Khans - Circular (Fretwell mix) [Hunya Munya]
Hydroid - What If (original mix) [Coldharbor]
Andy Moor - Halycon [Armind]
Jose Zamora & Damian DP - Transatlantic (Andy Moor remix) [Baroque]
Allende - Disillusion (original mix) [Subtraxx]
Montero - Captain Hook (House Mix) (edit) [Renaissance]
Joe C & Mike Hiratzka - Show U The Way (Chris Micali remix) [Open Up]
G&D + AvB - Zocalo
Michael Burns - Forwards [Little Mountain]
Andy Moor - Air For Life (Airwave remix) [Anjunabeats]
Blade & Absolut - Downward (Thomas Penton remix) [Kumquat]
Paul van Dyk - The Other Side (Deep Dish remix)[Vandit promo]
Trafik - Surrender (Intrumental) [GU]
Guy Gerber - Stoppage Time (Max Graham Sidechain Mix) [Bedrock]
(Sean Carnahan takes over for 2-3 tracks)

As soon as the breakdown hit I killed the main volume and yelled out "Whose ready for van Dyk!!!!!!!!!!???" To which the whole room roared/cheered/acted a fool. :)

I would of said it would have been a obvious mistake to play the original version any of his songs as well as any of his personal remixes. I didn't. Since he plays his sets at 138-144+ beats per minute. I didn't see the harm in playing a Deep Dish remix of his that is waaaay below his tempo range. Combined with the above mentioned shout out to the crowd, at the time I thought it was a good move. The crowd didn't have a problem with it, and Paul van Dyk himself didn't either.

Futhur. I did not know I was to be opening for him until I found myself opening for him. I asked Sean if I could maybe get a slot in the side-room. When I arrived at the event early (I hadn't been told my timeslot). Sean told me I would be playing the mainstage before him. I got to play an extra hour as he didn't show up until right at the very last. So.......again, I had no idea I was going to be playing the majority of the opening set :) But it felt good, and it worked out.

Annnnnnnd, because of that gig, I was given the opportunities to open for Gabriel and Dresden, Kenneth Thomas (twice)..once in Miami, Ferry Corsten, Crystal Method, Tiesto and Hernan Cattaneo..before Jojo and I got into it and Andrew Parsons took over :p

Would I have done it again if I could go back? Probably not, but I did not have the experience I do now. Bottom line: no harm, no foul. Nobody got pissed, everyone loved the set, and I was honored to get that kind of an opportunity. It was 4 years ago anyway. The haters can say whatever the they want, I'm out of the game anyway. :)

I rest my case.

When its my credibility in question, I have to set the story straight. :) For those who give a about the true facts that is.

I have fond memories of that night. PvD donated the proceeds of that night to Katrina victims. Matt did a great job with that set. Remember the crowd going wild, and myself thinking "Why is the Deep Dish mix of a PvD track being played if PvD is here tonight..."

Still have that set on CD in my case. Good times were had by all those in attendance!

Heh thanks man. I look at that night as my comeback after a very ty point in my life (losing someone to cancer) and losing the motivation to continue doing my work. I don't remember if that had to do with the timeslot I was given, but I remember that night motivated me to keep persevering.

(the following isn't directed at you ryan, just saying)

So I played a track I probably shouldn't have. We've all made mistakes. I've hit the pause or the track selector buttons on the currently playing track (similar to vinylists listing the wrong needle off the record playing over the speakers). I apologized to PvD himself. I don't think anyone has any ing idea what it feels like to answer to someone like him, especially when they don't expect to MEET him. Did he talk like everyone else? No. He realized what I was going for at the time, and forgived the error. Did I make the mistake again with all the aforementioned headliners I opened for later? Certainly not.

The only reason I made a big deal about all of this stems down to some people believing that playing the wrong track was the sole reason why i didn't get booked in Houston after that.

But whatever...people can believe whatever the they want. Doesn't matter anyway. Last gig I played was the Dallas gig a year ago...

I remember some nameless douche that posted on hbeats a day or two later:

"Who was that DJ that played one of Paul's tracks before he went on??? I heard he was really pissed!!!!!!!"

*shrug* It was a bunch of like that that got to me. Although if it had been a serious problem, Sean Carnahan woulda lit me up for it even if Paul shrugged it off. Its all good, it'd be four years ago at the end of this week.

I would give anything and everything to relive the night (or any main room gig) with the track selection and experience I have today. Performing in front of large crowds who are there for the music has been the only thing more rewarding than any of the 280 skydives I've made.
