I totally agree with Martin.....the closest I've seen with Sona, is Circus right now....I have a residency there ans the club is getting better and better!! We see a really nice crowd at the moment and I would never move my night in another club. This crowd is openmind and really fun to play in this club.....and most of international djs that are playin are putting Circus in their top clubs!! Circus is a must in Montreal at the moment!

oufff...i'll TRY to be decent here. 3 of the most terrible experiences i've ever had at circus...

1- a little over 1.5 yrs ago, 2 of my friends on 2 separate occasions were badly beat up and threatened by Circus security staff...for having food in their schoolbag which they wanted to coatcheck anyway. i saw the aftermath & these 2 friends were pretty scared, understandably...

2- a while ago, when i attended circus a little more often, maybe 2-3 years ago, i had the worst experience of my life in any club. this was when the entrance was on the side on st timothee street...i'm waiting in line to be searched for drugs/weapons. and a fight starts out of nowhere. loud yelling starts up and then...all of a sudden a guy about 3 spots in front of me gets his head bashed with one of those long poles used for dividing line-ups. his poor head split open & i still have the bloodstained shirt to prove it. most of my friends were inside already. i tried to run away via the exit (big garage-like door) but it was slammed shut as soon as the chaos started. essentially i was trapped in there. not fun. i ended up pushing thru the mess of people and ran into the house room, got my friends and got the out of there.

3- i could go on & on about shootings stories at circus but the only time i've witnessed it myself was a mere few months ago when a poor dude was shot in the bum (?!) ... i was leaving circus early in the morning maybe around 5-6am, on my out, and this poor guy's jeans were dripping with blood...bouncers told me that the actual shooting happened just outside the club and not inside...they must have thought i was really dumb because why would someone who was just shot outside the club actually be permitted to enter? and anyways, who the cares where it happens?! inside, outside...someone shot is still someone shot.

i know i'm gonna get flamed. but this is my personal experience...not intending to bash, just stating my experiences. i used to have fun at circus a while ago when i felt safer there and bookings were more to my taste. but the above experiences completely jaded me as a clubber and afterhours-goer altogether. as well, their bookings have completely lost my interest for some time now...i personally think that recycling names such as tom pooks and wally lopez only gets you so far. i also believe that #79 out of 100 'best clubs in the world' doesn't mean too much either- especially when the poll you're talking about is ing DJ mag, which lost all its credibility like 5 years ago at least. imo, the best music that gets played there is from hakim, paul & rene...give those 3 a night in the main room instead of shoving their talent into the gallery month after month...pull a rotation sometimes where your mainroom residents take a backseat to let the gallery residents showcase their talent. shake it up a bit instead of having the same names over and over month after month.

anyways...to put a + spin on this post, i really loved it when creamer & k played there a whiiiiiiiiiiile ago...i also had some great times when erik & bruno played there quite some time ago too. that creamer & k night still easily ranks in my top 10, so thanks for that...also, i have to say that the tranceformers night IS defo a great concept...bringing fresher, younger, less expensive talent instead of recycled names is always a win in my books...i also think this night works so well because it's the only monthly trance night on the island. i just wish y'all would apply this concept to fresh, young, international tech-house, prog-house, progno artists...not just trance. that is probably my only wish regarding circus bookings.

with all that said, i must say...history doesn't undo itself. what's done is done and it will always remain imprinted in the public's minds.

good luck with future endeavors :)

ps i only post like this cuz i care <3

stereohead:

dj mag top 100 clubs are voted by djs.

btw, creator is bull ? tone depth ? moh ? driss ? and all your boyfriends other friends ???

circus has never been as safe as right now... we work with Police for god's sake !!!

the actual security team is the same as beach club. Constant is actually the best security chief i've met since i know him from bar le beat in 1994. He's arrived at circus less than a month ago.

people like our staff pretty much.

so you can tell horror stories as much as you want, you are missing the party.

hakim, rené and paul r are treated more than well at circus. Ask them if they wish to play somewhere else for fun ? They are supporting the resident team in main room right now, best way to learn the game with the intention of building their own night, Creator and Bender are looking out for them BIG TIME... no need for you. They created gallery project with me, so yes that room is important to us. Only REAL underground room (well, for techno fans) and only place you'll see such amazing young talents all the time. We are shaping the future.

I much rather the black out and flex nights than the tranceformers nights at circus. I find they have a much better vibe and crowd. Some real good bookings tho for the trance nights too.

Im looking forward for trance nights at stereo again, those were great at the old stereo.

man do i miss aria...
