Yikes! I guess Paul wanted to have a John Lennon moment?

It sounds like U2 meets Coldplay meets REM for coffee.

I thought you guys like Producer/DJs who take chances? Or are the armchair TA music pundits flipping the script?

Having heard it all the way through, this is actually pretty decent coming from someone who produces Shranz. Sounds like something you'd see in a commercial or a somber movie scene.

^Context that the OP left out.

You sure post a lot for someone who hates TA so much.

I don't know why you see this as "taking a chance," since PvD has done this sort of music for a while now on his albums. PvD taking a real chance would mean, for example, making an acid techno or DnB track. But those who have paid attention to his albums the past five years expect this sort of mediocre sentimental stuff out of him now.

You can take a chance and succeed or take a chance and fail. I think the latter has happened here. I also don't know why you see this as "taking a chance," since PvD has done this sort of music for a while now on his albums.

The point is, this is not 136-140 BPM trance. I'm sure you understood that when I say "taking a chance." ie a producer doing something they dont normally put out.

And what did you use to measure whether this is a success or failure? From what I hear in this track, it does its job well, its basically a hymn to commemorate the falling of the Berlin Wall, with some heartfelt lyrics and vocals, and a warm backing track.

A song like this, written with a political or quasi-political message, stands or falls on its lyrics. And these lyrics are trite, the kind of thing that a teenager going through a '60s rock phase might write. Of course, English is not PvD's first language, so I can't blame him too much for expressing thoughts in a trite way, but then I don't think he should have chosen a type of music so dependent on skill with the language.

You say that like it's a good thing.

For this type of song, for the purpose it is for, for the type of people it will reach, it is probably as good as anything U2, Colplay, or REM might put together. And i'm a fan of all 3 of those bands. Both musically and lyrically, when we are talking about potential pop success of this song. The lyrics are actually good in context to the music and its purpose. They are simple yet have a meaning, they are easy to memorize, and they have to be easy to sing along to. The lyrics, timing, tone pretty much nails all of that. Either your too jaded to see this at face value, or your simply lacking the vision to see this working in the context and places it can be used.
