Not Real Nick - Midnight Beginning [Bigbeat/Chillout]

Just something I've been working on today, I thought it was worth a share as I think it sounds rather cool.

Out of anything, the drums took me the longest... I hate percussion and yet I love it.

Anyway, glitch went crazy on me when I rendered, so it's a little too obvious that it's being used in the track now, as percussion is noticeably being retriggered. Too lazy to re-render.

Anyway, tell me what you think, as this is not my regular genre.

Oh yeah, the plane sounding sample at the beginning is something I made with z3ta+ and thought is sounded cool, so I added it lol. I thought it gave it a bit of a Crystal Method feel.

whatup! beat sounds solid when the bass kicks in, i like the arp that comes in at :54, works well with the other minimal stab. not sure i dig the other distorted arp but thats me. definitely a fan of the pad/piano combo, fav part of the track. drums could use a little more, chop a break and layer it? anyway def potential!

I will give it a run tomorrow. Is about midnight in Seattle and my family is sleeping already, so no go for me tonight.
Will post my opinion.

Keep the music rolling man.

Sorry man, just came back home after spending the whole day in town.
I will run this track couple of times on my headphones and see if I can give you any suggestion. Usually I would like to listen any music through my speakers to pickup more frequencies, so for that reason if I'm not completely satisfied from your sound on my headphones I will give a run tomorrow on my speakers.

I hope that you are OK with that.

Cheers.

Thanks for the review, bro. I'm going to try to work on it some more... but as usual, my CPU is ing me over. Might have to bounce some of it.

I like your drums and percs, its different. The only thing I would like to change is the drum sample you used, it sounds a little too robotic, since I'm guessing you want it to mimic the sound of a real drummer. I cant really distinguish any bass, from the basskick so I'm guessing you gotta eq that up? Your piano sounds nice but it could use a longer tail in the reverb, and more on the low end.

Nice track, weird though(which isn't bad) =)

I like this track man, really grooving, nice.
Drums are doing nice job driving the whole tempo and setting up this grooving ton in your song. Transitions are well establish and together with FX nicely blend in the mains structure of this melody, well done my friend. Nice suspended atmosphere - is like slowly sucking you in, more and more.

You are on the good start man.

Cheers from Seattle. Keep them coming man.

I think the drums are very nice. The kick could maybe do with more low end, but it's nice nonetheless.

The synth that comes in @ 1.38 is a bit too "gritty" for my tastes. I don't really like it at all.

Nice FX. The Piano is good too, but I don't think some of the notes it plays fit well with the track. Still an interesting melody, though.

Good job.

I'm not a fan of the percs - they sound pretty thin and loopy. The glitchy synth sounds a bit confusing too, I think it's being panned too much.

The whole track also has a very distinct feeling like something's missing - I'd say that's because of the complete lack of a bassline.

The piano is a very nice touch and adds to the eerie vibe of the track nicely.

Track sounds kinda good. Likes this.:D It is musically interesting... and certainty way better than the tech house turd you posted last week. I am finding it hard to believe that you produced these two tracks. The mixing sounds good. It does have that software sound but its not too badly noticeable. Sonically while it could be better it gets a pass. Proper mastering could take this to the next level. ;) The only thing on mixing that is worth criticizing though is the piano sound that is waaay to forward in the mix and has way too much high end. It doesn't blend well. Try pulling it back and taking some highs out till it glues in with the rest of the track more cohesively. But overall... not bad ;) not bad at all ;)
Actually... Good! Worth to.
