| quote: | The TTC has approved a 25-cent fare hike today but softened the blow for post-secondary students.
"I really regret the 25 cents," TTC deputy chairman and city councillor Joe Mihevc said shortly before the vote.
"We know some people can't afford it and if there was another way we would have chosen it."
The changes would come into effect in January and are designed to plug a significant hole in the TTC's $100 million operating budget deficit.
It won't close that hole completely though and the TTC will have to go before city council for the remainder.
Before the vote, councillors listened to a parade of student representatives who argued for post-secondary students to get a break on transit costs.
The TTC's student rate had been limited to high school pupils but commissioners voted to extend that to all post-secondary students regardless of age or the extent of their course load, starting next September.
"This is the best way forward," TTC chairman Adam Giambrone said.
Here's what the TTC fare hike would mean to you.

Yeah, brutal.
Why is the metropass going up 16% but the single fares are only going up 9%? |

its about as confusing to me as to why people keep voting in left wing socialist unionist governments that allow this? |

i just call it as i see it! The governments that torontonians vote for and the ideology that goes with it is directly to blame for this hike.
If your dog died the liberals would blame it on poverty second hand smoke, and air pollution LOL!!! even if none of those things are the cause!!
LOL!! just kidding ;) |
