JFK to port authority

Hey,

My plane is landing at jfk at 9:20pm, and I have to be at port authority by 11pm-11:15pm to catch my greyhound bus at midnight to Montréal. Do you think I can make it with a shuttle from JFK airport or as it's friday night, it's impossible to get there. I guess I will be able to leave the airport by 10.

thank you
Victor Dinaire
you are cutting it close with a shuttle. Taxi might be the best and safest option for you

if your bus leaves at midnight you don't need to be there an hour in advance they don't even let you onto buses until right before they leave so 11:30 / 11:45. personally i would take a taxi but if you land early and feel like taking a risk take the train. it should take you a little over an hour to get there.

how much is a taxi?

ready...set...go!

taxi is about 45 dollars (plus tolls) from jfk to manhattan in general. Its a flat rate into the city. It could be 50 now. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As for public trans, I found this online.

Here is an easy and quick way to get to Manhattan without a cab:

Take the Airtrain to Jamaica Station, then transfer to the Long Island Railroad to Penn Station.

The Airtrain is $5 and the LIRR is about $7. You'll be at Penn Station less than an hour after leaving the airport, then you can take subway or a (shorter, less expensive) cab ride from there.

The LIRR platform is connected to the Jamaica Airtrain station and there are MTA employees there to help you with the ticket machines. The LIRR is much faster and more comfortable than the subway, and there are overhead racks for your luggage.

From Penn Station...either hop in a cab to the Port Authority or just take the 1,2 or 3 subway uptown to Times Square and walk a couple of blocks to the Bus Terminal.

Hope this all helps =)

Ok well, taxi is out of the order because I am on a tight budget...do you think I could make it on time to 11:30pm if I leave the airport at 10pm? That is what stresses me the most...

thats a lot of switching! Take the airtrain to the Howard Beach subway stop. Then take the A train directly from Howard Beach to Port Authority.

Since the A train connects directly with the Port Authority Bus terminal, there is no switching any more trains, go going above ground, no long distance walking, nor will you have to take any cabs. The subway is only $2.25, too!

I would still give it an hour, because even though the A train is an express train, at that time of night it may run local (ie: stop at every stop.)

if your flight lands on time. Im pretty sure u can make it.

the A train is sloowwwwww.

i've taken it to JFK a lot of times, and its certainly faster than taking the airtrain, LIRR, subway, and walking 3 blocks. Why do all all that (especially of you have bags?) when you can just hop on one train that goes directly from JFK to the Port Authority.....and for cheaper?

sorry, that just doesnt make sense, and yes, I have tried both ways ;) (although personally Iam too old and cranky now and just take a cab LOL)

pshhh you aint old!

I just had a bad experience where the A took forever to get into the city. But, I totally hear where your coming from. I guess to each his own. I would just take the bus from JFK to the Port Authority.
