false.
the H1N1 vaccine is the same as any other seasonal flu vaccines which have been tested thoroughly in the past, IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME minus the flu flavor of the season, in this case AH1N1.
It's like an old cake recipe where 99.5% of the ingredients is known in advance except if it's going to be adding nuts, choclate chips or dried raisin in it.
There's hundreds maybe thousands of flu variants, it's impossible to take years to redo tests on one variant alone because
1) there's not enough time between the moment the variant of the season is discovered and that flavor hitting the population
2) if they take their time to test it, the flu wave might be long over and the population already getting into the next one(s)
and 3) Price of vaccines would explode because of the ad nauseam testing, and God knows how much you hate being taxed and paying for frivoulous , this being one of them. :p
You don't want the vaccine? fine. Keep it to yourself and stop spreading lies and help the cause of tin foil hate wearers. |

funny but the tin foil hat wearers to me are the ones running to get the shot because they think if they dont they are going to die tomorrow.
And you have just illustrated why i wont get ANY flu shot since there is "not enough time" to properly test every variant. And to me its not necessary to begin with unless the flu could cause complications with someone who is already infirm.
As for the cost of vaccines... i think its absurd that the government is spending billions on this flu shot BS when we could be trying to cure cancer or AIDS or something that ACTUALLY KILLS OTHERWISE HEALTHY PEOPLE. |

You gotta blame the sheep that make up the better half of the Canadian population.
Hypothetically, if the CDN government had decided not to finance flu shots, the population would be up in a hissy fit saying the government isnt looking out for the people. Then again, im probably preaching to the choir here..
Until people understand what personal responsibility is, you can expect many more debacles like this for years to come.
Also as a general statement, from someone who's done 5 years of molecular biology and 2 years of immunology, I can tell you with confidence, that if your 20 something, and you dont have an immune deficiency. You DO NOT need the flu shot. Eat your veggies, dont go on clubbing benders too often and you'll be fine. Ill get off my high horse now. |

Tell me this vaccine is going to prevent AIDS or cancer which are deadly and are actual epidemics then id probably take the vaccine (assuming it had properly been tested) even with a small risk.
But there is no sense in risking anything for the sake of not getting the flu unless u are already infirm. |
Where the hell did AIDS and cancer come into this? Please - stay on topic (if you're unsure what the topic is, READ YOUR ORIGINIAL POST).
H1N1 is NOT seasonal flu:
http://www.infectioncontroltoday.co...rus-danger.html
It is more capable of killing healthy people (7-35 years old) because it infects cells deep in the lungs, unlike seasonal.
If you're going to post articles on this forum to try and inform people, can you please do SOME research instead of finding the most controversial articles nearly void of any useful information? Is that a lot to ask? |

I swear some of you s would argue the point that the sky was blue if Jay made it...
I believe he is in fact very informed on this issue...
I also side with him on this vaccine topic... |

Didn't we already have a discussion about this?
Deletefromusers, please find a more recent news-article.
Better yet, pull up the raw numbers of swine flu infection/deaths, rather than posting an article about how harmful it is to monkeys and ferrets. |

If 25% of Canadians have got the H1N1 shot, and 24 people have had confirmed allergic reactions, that's just under the .3/100,000 doses ratio that they calculated in their studies.
How many unconfirmed allergic reactions there have been will bump that number up a bit as well, but by and large it looks like their calculated risk was fairly accurate.
Too bad someone had to die from the shot all because they didn't want to risk death by the flu. But that's the risk you take when you inject into your body. Who knows, maybe H1N1 would have got 'im anyway. |

GSK recently recalled a batch of vaccines that showed an unusual increase in allergic reactions from 1 in 100,000 to 5 in 100,000. This is for a batch that includes 170,000 doses. A "lot" of people means 6 or 7 instead of 1 or 2. Is that about right?
Strange that the vaccine supplier would recall the vaccine if it's really involved in some sort of wacky global depopulation conspiracy thing... |

So in PEI they have delayed the HPV vaccine. Here is a vaccine that in my opinion is much more important than swine flu. This vaccine prevents HPV which in women is proven to cause cancer. If there is any small risk in taking a vaccine i would think cancer>>>>>>flu
I wonder what else is delayed? I wonder what other jurisdictions are affected? I wonder what the next scare will be?

HPV vaccination delayed by swine flu program
Last Updated: Wednesday, November 25, 2009 | 7:21 AM AT Comments14Recommend15
CBC News
The province of P.E.I. has delayed a program to vaccinate young girls against HPV, a virus linked to cervical cancer.
The series of three shots is offered to girls in Grades 6 and 9. The vaccine is administered by public health nurses, but deputy chief health officer Dr. Lamont Sweet told CBC News on Tuesday those nurses were assigned to deliver the H1N1 vaccine instead.
"The first dose has been given, the second dose, which is normally given a month later, has been delayed in many schools because the nursing staff have been busy with the H1N1 vaccine program," said Sweet.
The third shot will be administered by the end of the school year.
