do you write? (as a hobby)

Do any of you guys write as a hobby? A few months ago, as if struck my lightening, I began writing about random stuff from my life - essays varying from views on philosophy to psychology to random reflections on my life. It has been about 2 notebooks and many saved google docs later that it has all come to a standstill. Im kind of curious, do any of you guys write for pleasure? What do you get out of it? Do you publish and share with your friends, or mainly something you do for yourself?

I used to write heaps. Got many, many notepads, and knows how many .doc files. A few hundred thousand words worth?

I got busy though, and haven't had time for the last 5 years, lol :sadgreen:

Yes, but I always try and get it published in one way or another.

Yeah I have a short poetry portfolio, a short story or two, and a series of vignettes. I want to get around to writing a screenplay and a novel soon.

Actually, this reminds me there's a deadline on Monday I need to post for. So thank you.

I used to try, everything from poetry to long fiction to philosophy and social commentary. I filled up lots of notebooks, most of which are now at my parents' house. I wrote from late elementary school through most of college, off and on. I wanted to be published eventually.

Then I realized I had no talent and never said anything very original. So now I just write some stuff down in a notebook and never show anybody.

same

but i wouldn't say i'm too busy now...more like intimidated to get back into it (writers block). i have so many books about writing and grammar and how to write a screenplay, etc...

wish i could get motivated to get back into my screenplay. i need some inspiration.

Yes, and I get a real kick out of it. I considered some of my previous writings very incomplete and dispersed, but I finally think I found something worth talking about, and I'm now working on my first novel. It's the layman's version of my work in grad school... and my criticism of what I call "ordinary literature".
Demoted
Yes. Though I certainly don't attempt to get any of it published.

Will this be written in Portuguese?

And you never made that thread about "ordinary literature," did you?

Yes, few short stories and I started a novel and a screenplay. Not sure if they'll ever finish. I'm kind of overly critical and so far have only shown one short story to a friend who liked it a lot and told me to continue and try to get some stuff published. I doubt I'll ever do that though, it certainly won't be commercial mass market stuff and I fail to reach a level of confidence and conviction where I want my work to be published and viewed ba others. :(
Seems like I'm a huge insecure .

Also I usually have a ton of ideas (lots of them kinda crazy) but am not productive enough to turn them all into stories.

Yes, probably. I'd love to write it in English but, given my unsatisfactory command of the English language, I think it'd be way too pretentious to write in a language other than my own.

I mean, I can send you some excerpts in English if you want: If you think my English is good enough to get my point across (and not burden the editor(s) with my grammatical errors), then I could give it a shot :)

Not yet, but I intend to post it next month... a strike broke out at university last week (hooray for living in Latin America!) and I need to make haste and get my studies/work done before it gets out of hand.
