ADD and focus
View this Thread in Original format

I have 2 projects(starting in the new year) coming up and I am wondering if anyone has had success with staying focus for long periods of time. The last project I did required a daily dosage of adderall to meet the time restraints (14 hour days) and I got really anxious. Unfortunately the type of work does not allow the freedom to work slower.

Looking for some tips to stay focus without having to rely on amphetamines or coffee. I have heard about a new drug for add called stratera. Has anyone with ADD had success with it ?

Modafinil is a stimulant but has much less of the typical amphetamine jitters. People who go through concentration-critical situations (law enforcement, pilots) take it to enhance focus and stave off fatigue.

strattera is ineffective, i recommend adderall or dexedrine or other amphetamines!!

Cannabis works.

I think it would make me way too loopy and slow to do any kind of involved production.

like i said before, they make me way too anxious and I don't want to have to balance it out with xanax. I'm not looking for specific medical solution. It can be anything that works for others that have ADD.

for me a project takes a good month to compleate i'm now the 3rd week in so not long left.
to make a track from a blank page is hard going so i've learned it's best to plan out dont be affraid to leave it alone for a day or two to keep things fresh.

dont pay to much attention to one thing because this can kill the work flow dead.

by having a set type of formate can help,laying/mapping things out can stop you from losing sight.

if there is any one part of the project you like then render that part to wav and open a new instant of ya daw load the wav file and play around with it and see what you get out of it that way you wont mess up the main project if things dont work for you

good luck

smoke a spliff an hour or two prior and you'll be fine. It's better then taking pills on an almost daily basis.

How do you figure that will help you focus any more?

Makes me lose focus more than anything.
Beatflux
5 Hour Energy?

I hear kids take it to play videogames into the night.

Ask on mindandmuscle.net for good answers

A lot of people solve your situation by changing dosing and drug (e.g from Adderall XR to Vyvanse).

If there was ever a dose that worked for you, but doesn't anymore, you there are chemical ways to get back down to that dose.

If you have something like GAD, you basically have to fix that problem before the ADD. If that's the case you should go on clonazepam for a few months and try to fix your thought patterns. Might want to try every SSRI/SNRI until you find one that is effective as well.

Well Richie I think I know what type of projects you mean - are you out this way for them? Let me know.....

(As you know) I have to do those hours for extended periods. TBH, there's no easy fix to this and I'd suggest just staying away from any stimulants altogether - it just is a false economy in the long run, you always end up paying in some other way and when you crash, you crash HARD. If that comes at the wrong time it can your deadline.

The best advice I can give after having done this for a while now, is to make sure when you do sleep, you sleep deep, as long as possible and uninterrupted.

During DK, that made a huge a difference - the days I didn't get sleep were a pain but honestly after the second week you get used to it.

DON"T TAKE SLEEPERS TO DO IT. My new secret weapon is high strength melatonin. Doesn't you up in the day, no grogginess, and calms you before sleep, even if your head is spinning (which I often have after 16 hours in front of protools).
