Lol, I know all that. That's not the issue for me. The issue is now I can be contacted by people I most likely don't want to be contacted by. I don't have a problem ignoring the requests, but the other way is less insulting. :p
And yeah I got a few requests today. Names I don't even recognize wtf. |

But, my friend is wondering how to shut off the friend requests? Anyone figure that out? |
Bah, didn't you read my posts? You CAN'T. The most amount of control you have over that now is "friends of friends". So friends of people on your list can see your profile pic and limited info and be able to friend request you. |

You can change the indexing thing for search egines...

Thats nice! And UNCHECK!
An jenny, you can shut off the message feature to only friends... so the only real contact you'll get is a request, which you can deny lol |

Yes I know that, lol goddamn man are you seriously even reading my posts?? sakes son.
And it's not friends only, it's friends of friends. I'm talking about in the contact section/add me as a friend option. |

Calm down woman! I'm on the page right now... right where you are talking about...
Send me a message
Control who can send you a message from search results and from your profile can be set to Friends Only...
AND...
Add me as a friend
Control who can add you as a friend from search results and from your profile is Everyone or Friends Of Friends
And now that i've ed around in the privacy settings enough, I don't think the Friend Request is all that bad... you can pretty much lock down your entire profile that no one can see nothing... you can stop search engines from indexing you, and restrict facebook search results to only friends too... and since you can DENY friends, what is the harm in letting people ask to add you? It's jsut people asking? They can't see nothing of u, no information, just your profile pic and your fanpages... and your sex. Would like if it wouldn't show your friends as well, but oh well. So what is the harm in a request? If you're worrying about denying them... hell, it can't hurt that much to get denied! Happens to me each weekend at the bar and pretty much every other party i've ever been to my entire life?! |

It's the principle though. Like I said, I don't have a problem ignoring it...I just preferred it when I didn't have to deal with it at all.
And most of those privacy settings aren't new features. You could always have it set that way. I know because that's how I have mine set up. :p |

K, was reading something on the web and the thing withthe friend thing is this...
You can choose who you want as your FB friends, choose who you don't want, based on people you interact with on a daily basis or people you actually give a about. Fair enough, you've locked it down enough...now everyone else with your privacy settings.
What about when someone, legitmately find you, could be a childhood friend, a current friend who lives away who you don't have regular contact with who never had a facebook but now got one and wants you as a friend. Could be a random old dude in Europe claiming to be your real birth father. Wouldn't be nice to entertain the idea... I just only a couple weeks ago got a request from this one girl I was great friends in university, I left school, she got in a relationship, our contact stopped, phone numbers / emails changed etc, no contact with previosu mutal friends, now 9 years later, she saw me on someones page and added me. Totally blast from the past! We've been getting closer in the past weeks since, which is kinda what the real novelty of facebook was about when it first came out, finding old friends.
NOW, here is what I would like to see.... when you make a request for a friend, you HAVE to write something about either who you are, why you're adding or something... ie. hey, remmeber me, we met that time at so and so's bday party in the summer? So and so's friend, we were talking about that thing and those things all night and you said we should thing. (maybe not the vauge, but you get the idea).
THAT would be a great addon if they're not going to limit the friend requests, at least make a reason mandatory... |

If I haven't talked to them since childhood... Then I probably don't care if I ever hear from them again. If you stopped talking to that girl from Uni, there was probably a reason, and you're likely not getting as "close" as you think you are by sending msgs back and forth on the internetz.
I'm with Jenny, I want my profile locked down so I have complete control over who can do so little as find me in a search. It's one of the reasons I never put my real picture up as a profile pic. I want complete privacy control over my account, or I'd prefer to have my account deleted.
It REALLY sucks because FB just got the snot kicked outa them by Canada's privacy commissioner and they said they were gonna lock things up, and then they took away our privacy instead. |

| Yeah pretty much. However, I do have to say that the only reason I created a Facebook account was to find and contact my younger half-sister. |
