what's interesting is the application of the law.

under the Liquor Licence Act, public intoxication is prohibited.

HOWEVER, authorities require a warrant to arrest someone who is publicly intoxicated unless they fail to provide their name/address (or the info supplied is suspected to be false) and/or someone's safety is at risk.

so assuming they provided their name/address (and had ID to eliminate the possibility of the cops thinking the info was bogus) and assuming they were just sitting/standing there waiting for a ride...on what grounds were they issued a ticket? is there some other law/bylaw which extends what is contained in the LLA?

its time to scrap the liquor laws (amongst many others) and start over.

someone needs to run on a libertarian platform. The problem is that canadians are now so conditioned to being babysat that they would actually vote against it.

Therein lies your whole contradiction. Someone should do it (presumably you) but there's no point since given the current state of affairs no one is likely to side with you on any of these issues. Well guess what, minority governments have had a considerable impact on Canada's social policies through out history.

Over the years of listening to your views, you clearly seemed to have the political drive/passion, but yet you remain inactive. Do you think that spreading 'awareness' and sharing you views on how things should be on a EDM forum is good enough?

I am actually part of several political organizations and in my free time i am actively pursuing the cause more and more. TA is just a forum to bounce my ideas off of people who in some ways i consider to be my peers.

I do not have the power or the money to make a huge impact at this moment. But that doesnt mean that i never will. Things do sometimes take a bit of time :)

I doubt this would be news if the perps were 22.

and that makes it even sadder. But i doubt the 22 year olds would do anything about it. Younger people seem to be more complacent these days and actually campaign for MORE government control. Which is completely the opposite from tradition in our country.

Jay, you missed the best part of this story, lol.

MADD supports the initiative!!! how ing absurd is this...

I don't see why this is a surprise. It's been known for some time that MADD isn't really interested in drunk driving specifically, their goal is full prohibition.

yes MADD, lets go back to the 20's, history does repeat itself, but dont we learn from our mistakes? unless MADD has some sort of hidden agenda...
