Yes the cop is getting more freedom to nail you for stuff at the side of the road but you do still have the option of fighting things in a court of law in front of a judge...

Problem with that is that you're hit with a lot of expense in work lost as well as court costs...

I hate how cops have the power to still screw you even the charge is dismissed...

It's somewhat of a numbers games. How many actually go to court knowing that a lesser fine is not worth the time when considering lost hours from work, as well as travel expenses. I'll bet a lot more ppl don't contest many fines due to this reason. Like a casino, the cops' fines will likely come out ahead in the end. The house always wins.

If I may, court for the small things reminds me of the concept of a the "Mail-In-Rebate"...

and that makes it even sadder. But i doubt the 22 year olds would do anything about it. Younger people seem to be more complacent these days and actually campaign for MORE government control. Which is completely the opposite from tradition in our country.

This is the same in most nations I'm afraid, populations that WANT bigger government for the exchange of security (the sense of security)... and yes it's the younger generation that is more reluctant to question authority, more reluctant than the herds of older generations before them. It's not very hard to see where were going...

Tippin my tinfoil hat at ya ;)

Bull. The "population" doesn't support this. The population is merely passive, sitting idly by while narcissistic power-seekers find new ways to expand government and police control. These initiatives come from, and are supported by, only a small, select group of people.

It's like the Toronto Islanders. Do any of the millions of people in this city really give a about them? No, but they have endless time on their hands to bitch to their representatives until they get what they want, and nobody else has the time or energy or resolve to fight them on it. These people at MADD and other prohibitionists simply have virtually unlimited time and patience and nothing better to do. The rest of us can't compete with that unless we pool our collective resources (and I don't see anyone doing that).

I'm not really sure what your arguing against (I know what you meant on the surface). But if it is simply your perception of whether or not citizens want larger government, than I'm not spending any energy proving you otherwise. Besides what do you include in your definition of a passive people?

I'm not sure if you can draw a relationship to this, but all in all people vote and still and think it matters...

It's only going to get more ridiculous as the objective is to remove judges from decision making, give cops more of the responsibility...

Best quote of the article, "You can't be intoxicated in a public place. It's an offence." Well then why the hell aren't they waiting outside of all the bars to charge every drunk patron as soon as they take a step onto public property. It is an offence after all.
