Digweed loves tracks with poor arrangement decisions

So this has been bugging me recently and I can't seem to wrap my head around it. Maybe theirs someone here who actually likes this stuff who can give an explaination.

Recently why does Digweed seem to love tracks that have sudden drops in energy, tracks that go nowhere, and tracks that have potential but don't ever get there for some unknown ing reason.

Here are a few examples:

-I really like the sound of this one. Theirs a pretty epic buildup that starts around the 5:00 mark and ends around the 6:00 but theirs no resolution, it just goes to a straight beat and some background pad. wtf?

-Again, I really like the sound of this one, it has a really evil vibe. But it never really goes anywhere. wtf?

- I saw a video of Digweed playing this live and it makes me want to puke. I'd recommend starting at the 2:00 mark and just listen for about 20 seconds for the massive drop in energy. One of my friends said "wtf, it's like the music just...stops"

- And lastly, Henry Saiz's remix of Bedrock - Emerald. I really love the original but for some reason Henry decided to use only part of the original melody, except for one fleeting moment during the breakdown, AND take almost all of it away after the breakdown. Maybe i'm just crazy but this just pisses me right the off.

because of the way he mixes. Overproduced tracks can be a bitch to layer. You only have to look at his transitions cds to understand this.

that being said he still bores the piss out of me.

There's a massive difference between overproduction and pointless builds and energy drops.
Schadenfreude
nothing is pointless if you know how to use them.

I disagree. Just watch the video with the henry saiz remix. Even though digweed is mixing, the drop in energy and the lack of melody is completely obvious

energy drop at 2 minutes? wtf are you talking about

instead of watching a youtube video hows about you get yourself along to a club - if you heard Reflections live you wouldnt be complaining about energy drops
RebeL9
it's trendy. Holden have been playing this type of asswank for the last couple of years.
It's more boring than watching cricket. And man is cricket boring to watch!

Good music can be played on its own without being ed with. Bad music needs a DJ to with it until its tiness is masked.

I assume you are talking about the third track I posted and if you don't hear a massive drop in energy then you must be deaf.

Also, I've seen Digweed, Sasha, and Sasha + Digweed live. I haven't heard Reflections live but wtf does that have to do with the other tracks mentioned here?

I know it's hard to believe but massive energy drops don't work live.

Edit: The energy drop in the third video isn't AT 2:00, that's just a suggested starting point. The actual drop is around 2:15

digweed was the master of epic, heavily layered melodic dance music. he's done with that now. fair enough.

true, but you also must recognize that some things are made for dance floor use. No dj just plays bomb track after bomb track. A good dj structures his set with appropriate filler tracks to emphasize the big track to make them go off bigger.

In a sense it is the same way that an aperitif is designed to tinkle the palate and make the next course more enjoyable with food.

I don't like what hawtin does for instance, but i do like when a dj uses the tools at his disposal to make tracks he did not create have a flare of his own. Digweed used dj tools even back in his "epic" house days as well. You should know this.

Tension and release makes good djs imo.
SYSTEM-J
All tracks are DJ tools. Whether it's an anthem or a "filler", it needs to be used right. That doesn't justify making music that is useless when it isn't DJ'd and DJ'd in a specific way at that.

Also, name some epic house DJ tools please.
