Really this is a matter of scale. IMO the AD proposed goes way to far. If it was a normal type ad you'd find on board ttc vehicles I'd say they'd allow it.

The owner of AA has said he purposely looks for situations like this for free publicity. Apparently website traffic spikes when the media eats up these stories.

"Back in the day", it was almost expected that Men cheat, their wives knew but dealt with it because the man was the provider and sucked it up.

At least these days, women feel more empowered to leave their man if they are cheating.

really says a lot about humanity eh

for a society supposedly based upon honesty and integrity, we do a ty job of following up on that

Makes me question why we place so much importance on monogamy actually.

There are more important things in a relationship to me than sexual exclusivity. I've been in relationships of varying degrees of openness, and would consider my current relationship to be monogamous - but I don't view it as the holy grail/standard that all relationships must live up to.

Ideally, a couple should be open to discussing what is / is not working and do things openly and honestly (you can still cheat in an open relationship) - but better to have the cards on the table and discussed instead of going behind each others back.

Although, I will agree - that promoting dishonesty in relationships is a bad thing.

Straight truth.

Most other animals are better?

Society promotes what it should be about, not what in reality it is.

Again, more well thought out honesty. Careful kainz, most people can't handle this much clarity in one sitting.

Agreed. I would extend that to say that promoting dishonesty at most any time is a bad thing.

I hope that as humans with ability to use logic and reasoning, can be a little more disciplined and above acts of animals

We live in a society where monogamous relationship is the social norm, and that loyalty, honesty and integrity is something to be valued, as basis of our society.

I'd have no problems at all if polygamous relationships are the norm, and AM is just an outlet of polygamous relationship.

But AM is actively encouraging people to be disloyal, dishonest with their SO. That's not a good thing, right?

I'll agree with that. But it does make me wonder - if people were more willing to consider other options outside of monogamy, and be more open and communicative in their relationships - would there be as much of a market/need for sites like AM?

Doesn't need to be full-on Poly open everyone have a 3-way relationship - there are many variations in between the two extremes.

For many people, the 100% monog route is the way to go. But, seeing by how many people do cheat - for many people, it may be worth considering other options and being honest instead of sneaky about it.

Monogamous relationships are the societal norm, and for good reason of course. My feelings are just that people should really evaluate whether they want to enter into marriage, and to be really honest with each other, and even more so with themselves, regardless of the norms. If someone wants to be in an open relationship, they should be upfront about it with anyone they are involved with, otherwise it will just manifest later and conflict with arrangements that have been made.

I could never imagine myself in a relationship tat wasn't strictly monogamous, but I think that people should do what the feel, regardless of my personal choice.

I had never heard of Ashley Madison before today, and it disgusts me to hear that they advocate disloyalty.

people in a consenting open relationship, and i have no problem with this as long as both adults consent to this, probably won't need sites like AM to find another partner... right?

if you don't have the balls to talk to your spouse about your relationship, incl exploring open relationships, you probably shouldn't be in one in the first place.

hm how funny would it be if
husband and wife are both on the site and suddenly find each other

There you go using those crazy words again. Since when has society ever even claimed to be based on that? You can base your own actions on those things, and many of us do, but society is based on them in the eyes of a hopeless idealist who watches too much TV.
