Trance as "medicine" =]

This will inevitably sound dumb to a degree and has nothing to do with production.

I was driving home from school tonight. And on my way to school I was listening to talk radio, then in between classes I went to get a bite to eat and had z100 on. Then tonight I get out of class, I'm stressed the eff out because if I don't get a B or better on this final thurs I'm not graduating.

Wound up popping in one of my trance cds and noticed something VERY different about my mood instantly. It happened before the music even started to play which is why I suppose I noticed it in the first place.

But this is what I noticed. When I listen to talk radio I THINK. I think about my life, I try to relate, I try to come up with answers to . And I usually wind up more stressed out then before. When I listen to mainstream radio I usually analyze the music like "what was lady gaga smoking when she added that lyric?" or "what was the radiostation thinking to add that song..?" and so on.

But what I noticed about trance specifically. It makes me NOT THINK. And tonight was the first time I realized how apparent this is. I put the cd in and the ride flew by, I was home before I knew it, and I wasn't stressed anymore. I had spent 20mins out of my day not thinking, just feeling I guess, going where the beat took me (these are tracks I've heard a thousand times before like mindspring, f-4 and what not) and when I got home my mind had just been completely erased.

I realized I spend my ENTIRE n day thinking about random , useless stressful crap. And trance stops that for me, and I wonder if **THIS** is why I started listening to trance in the first place. I will analyze the out of a good track when I'm mixing, but for the most part my mind is in another world when I'm listening to my genre of choice, or a *good* song from my genre.

And I wonder if this is the same for you guys? Do you ever find yourself listening to trance as a way of actually coping with life? I know psych textbooks would prob have something outlined about it. But it really clicked for some reason tonight. Trance brings some weird sort of peace into my life, that I can't find from rap, or rock, or anything else really.

I dont really have a point, guess I typed all this because Im just curious how it relates to other people.. but I thought it was cool.

Yes, with EDM in general. Specifically house and techno

i agree with you totally.

i dont know if its because i love this trance or something. but it can either relax me or g' me up or whatever i want it too... its weird. if i put on a trance song whilst im trying to chill outside or something it chills me perfect. if i put on someone before im gonna go out it makes me so pumped. or if im driving home it can relax me and make time go WAY faster...

i loveit.

your threads are never boring robby!:haha:

anyway, nothing too new about this. Music has, since it's creation been used in such ways: there's been a number of studies in particular on music during WWII relating to recorded music and it's positive effects on the persecuted peoples, which is the earliest one i can think of. I don't htink it's a stretch to assume that music has always been used as a remedy and mood-fixer though!

live music just as much, or maybe even more than recorded... how good is stuff like reggae even?

trance is obviously good too, as it's melody driven, intentionally created to draw out emotion, similar to classical :)

so what? you are saying trance makes you not think and makes you forget about lifes troubles?

what happens when the CD ends? what??:conf:

Trance is like beer.

It makes you forgets but when it ends the troubles comes back again.
