Tranceaddict set of the year [2009]

Cast your votes here. Try to limit it to one or two truly exceptional selections and please post a link to the thread.

Also, people who think they've made a good set, feel free to remind us, because even though I have 90% of the sets I've downloaded from here in one folder, others might not. It's hard to remember even the best sets from back in January, at least for me.

My definite winner this year is Matt G. - Progressive-Tribal

This set is amazing. The progression is incredibly smooth. It feels a lot more like a set from a 'professional' DJ than the (still impressive and enjoyable) sets from other TAs. The cohesiveness of the tracks is incredibly strong.

For me, this is often the factor that has differentiated a really upper crust DJ from just a plain good one. The class-leading DJs are able to assemble a mass of tracks which all sound like come from the same producer or label yet still have a significant amount of variation between them to keep things interesting. This set fulfills that criteria, and I haven't been able to say that in a long time. It really reminds me of Hernan Cattaneo's work.

Your mixing is spot on, the flow is utterly flawless and I liked every track to the point that I'm about to log onto beatport and download them all one by one. The real clincher for me was that I don't hear many sets like this anymore, and even when this sound was in vogue it was still rather rare to hear it done authentically. This had so much rhythm and groove, but then again it shouldn't be surprising considering your location.

I feel like I should make a tribal set after listening to this - I am that inspired. However, I already know that I don't have enough tracks of this nature in my collection to attempt such a feat. :(

That does look pretty cool, albeit using Chris Micali as a crutch well hard. :p

Great idea for a thread :)

This is going to take some serious thinking though, and I'm off for a week to non-internet-land on the 23rd.

Isn't that the place with the fire and red pitchforks?

I'll give you a 'maybe' on that one. Fraser Island weather can be a bit random, to be fair.

Edit: How long do we have on this? Until new year? Make a cut-off date.

There doesn't really need to be a cut-off date. I suppose the word "vote" was misleading. I just intend this more as a recommendations thread. It would be impossible to organise a proper vote and come to a consensus anyway. Imagine the uproar from the trance crackers if a "mnml" (i.e. anything but minimal) set won!
