I strongly doubt he will like straight up trance anyway. It's just not his style.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions :)

No. I want to make sure he doesn't get into trance or anything cheesey.

So you mean you want to take his choice away and make it YOUR choice. That is not very nice, if he is going to like Trance he will find out and like it regardless if you get him into the EDM scene.
Just because you are a Trance genre hater doesn't mean he should be. Pick a few songs from each genre and let him make up his own mind about what appeals to him.

i think Julia's objective, or at least one of them, as thread starter, was pretty clear from the onset...at least if you READ her first sentence.

If she wanted to show him the music SHE was into then why would she be asking US for suggestions lol

I posted a thread like this a few years ago, but I can't find it, and I need an updated version.

I'm trying to show a friend the music I'm into. I made him a Ricardo Tobar & Digweed set. He says he liked it, but some of it was too "repetitive". It's such a pet peeve when nOObs say that. I'm also pretty sure he skimmed through the sets, because nOObs aren't used to listening to an hour long non-stop set.

So I was thinking about songs that I used to like, that aren't too repetitive, maybe even some vocals (but not necessary). I can't remember a lot of song names, but these came to mind:

Robbie Rivera - Float Away
Gabriel & Dresden - As the Rush Comes
Criss Source - Hugs and Kisses

I don't want to get any more trancey than the songs I mentioned above. In fact, I want to show him some dark dirty tech house, but I need it to be nOOb proof. Maybe like Dubfire style music (where it's pretty decent and still on the "commercial" side)?

Any other suggestions? :)

It's funny that you posted a trance tune in your original post.

it's funny that you're asking for help with edm noob music considering you've defined the sound you're after so narrowly. anyway i don't see why trance should be avoided. even though trance today is utter by all accounts, there's plenty of good trance from back in the day. take sasha & zabeila's annie on one mix from 2003. hooks everyone i play it for. it sounds like you're more after something like this though...

Julia I have no idea what kind of music you like so I can't really give any suggestions.
