| long engagements don't work 99% of the time. It's a stupid thing to do at any time, and especially at 19. If you get engaged, you should be willing to back it up by getting married within 18 months or so which is plenty of time to get a good venue & arrange it all, but your "some point in the future" just won't work. Even Jake agrees. |

| Usually its the woman who wants the guy to get engaged. This sounds like it was all your idea, to keep other guys away from her. If thats the case that screams insecurity and will eventually doom the relationship. Do you still live far apart? Are you afraid she's going to meet someone at college who's better than you? |
