Nice shots but between these two crowd shots, I count maybe 2 woman. Seems like it was a complete sausage fest.
Edit: in fact the the top one, there aren't any woman at all :wtf: |

I was in NYC to see PVD! I'd never seen him before and didn't quite know what to expect since a lot of people, including my good friend who I tend to trust with these things, seemed to be saying that his live sets have been really lacking lately. It just seemed like the right thing to do anyway, and that friend joined nonetheless.
I met up with my group of friends in Jersey around 7:30..kicked it and then took the train into the city. We were gonna meet up with my good friend from LA and his sister then head to the show but it was about 10pm and rather than head to his hotel room and waste a bit too much time I called him up and told him to meet us at the subway station to which he responded "Actually...just come here. I got a stretch limo. Surprise!" What an amazing way to kick off the night. We went to his hotel, the Soho Grand (f'ing amazing) and had 1 or 2 drinks each to calm the nerves, hopped in the limo, and off we went.
The Bad:
-The price, obviously. I can't remember what TAO prices were, like $80 I believe? Well for that 80 you saw Dubfire, Digweed, Schossow, and Schulz (guetta too). My ticket + fees came to 110 to see PVD and Jason Jollins.
-Getting to Roseland from the street was a MESS. Initially it appeared as though check points were set up on other side of the block with police checking IDs, etc (would have sucked as my friends sister is not 21......) We waited 'in line' for 20 minutes without moving then realized that everyone standing along the barricade actually just thought they could somehow see the ball drop from that location (NO) and was making it harder for the rest of us who had to push through to the police checkpoint to show tickets and then walk to Roseland.
-The countdown. Last time PVD was in NYC for NYE they dropped xpander at midnight apparently. I was hoping for something similar. I nearly missed the countdown as it was basically between Jollins and PVD's sets and I was coming up something ridiculous at this point. :eyespop: Basically...10 9 8... happy new year! *pvd opens with a mashup of time of our lives and pop top 40 stuff ie Black Eyed Peas.
-Ended at 4am.
- -1000 degrees outside
-Literally the loudest show I've ever been to. My right ear still feels broken and I'm still ringing a bit.
The Good
-Literally the loudest show I've ever been to.
-PVD's set was BANGIN. In the first hour he got a lot of his own stuff out of the way mixed in with some harder electro tracks but then he started playing everything I wanted to hear and a lot I didn't expect.
-Actually getting in to the Ballroom after aforementioned roadblock was cake, barely checked ids, and the pat down consisted of touching my jacket twice then in.
-2 encores! PVD was so energetic and smiling the whole time it was incredible. 2nd encore was the cosmic gate remix of Home. As obvious as that was, I still loved it.
-PVD played Johnny the Fox (Barnes and Heatcliff edit)! I love that track. Did markus play it at TAO????
-GOURYELLA! I remember that track coming on, looking at my friend and just saying 'wowowow what is this I know I know it'..after about 3 minutes with both realized and basically lost our . Lot of other great classic tracks too- mindcircus, born slippy, etc
-The crowd. Very few guidos, great mix of early to mid 20s and older. We met a lot of amazing people (which I've never really done at a massive in LA) who we'll probably head out with tonight.
I'm still way envious of all of you who got to see Markus as I missed him in Vegas. |

Went to TAO and had so much fun even though most of our friends were at Giant. Digweed was already on when we got there and I was loving his set. Been a few years since I saw him last. David Guetta was torture. Cheesy ass house :( Enough said. Markus was the main reason we went and he killed it. So glad he was on 2-4am. Definitely left TAO on a high note. We stayed at the main stage the entire night.
I still wish they would quit combining genres like this. No one who goes to see Marcus Schossow, John Digweed, or Markus Schulz wants to suffer thru 2 hours of David Guetta and I'm sure Guetta fans feel the same about the other DJs.
Insomniac/Go Ventures did a great job. There was virtually no line when we got there. Parking was $25 which wasn't too bad. Tenting the main stage was great and my god that was a huge tent! About the only negatives I have to say is the bar situation in VIP was a complete joke. They had run out of 21+ wrist bands by the time we got there. There was always a huge line to get drinks. I gave up after standing in line for 15 minutes and not moving. The need to do it like they did at MM where you could just walk up and get a drink. Oh, and overflowing toilets :( Nasty!!! |

went to downtown SF and watched fireworks. We road the train so I drank a bottle of champagne on the way and I was really drunk. Didn't have the money to go to LA and all the parties in SF are a huge ripoff
had a good time! The last 3/4ths of 2009 were probably the worst times ive ever lived through so good ing riddance,2010 looking pretty good though! |

There were plenty of women at Joseph's, Day One, and all the afterparties I went. No lines either. Gotta love that! :) This New Year's definitely tops last year's. It may have even outdone the year before. Yep, it does. 2010 is GREAT!!! :D
Hello, hello... bonjour, bonjour... somebody answer the phone...ring, ring ;) |

A common theme with a lot of people I know. Including myself!. Rough, rough 2009. Trying to stay positive that 2010 will be better. |

Went to see Lawler at the Avalon.
Skipped out on TAO since my friends flaked out and i didn't want to go solo, it was a comp so i was lucky enough not to loose out.
GOOD:
Nice decor and layout of the Avalon, LCD's everywhere and all kinds of good stuff.
Lawlers SET WAS AMAZING, especially his last half and hr was just banging!
Priors set in the Lounge was pretty sick.
All the rooms were open, good to go up stairs and party into the after hours.
Empire after hours, i went in for about an hr and the music was pumping. But by that time I was too tired and went to my truck to pass out.
BAD:
Azn Invzn night, seriously. Washers took a good chunk of dance floor.
Sanders set was bland, had no rhythm at all. He would play something good, and then another dope track and then drop the ball. I was pretty disappointing because he rocked it last time i had seen him.
Gerber was disappointing also, I went in expecting a lot. But trance style build ups kind of killed it for me. He did a good job for the most part, but then I kind of got over it.
I was expecting more, Morillos night there had way better production and A LOT cheaper. I got presales like at 60bucks for NYE and I know my friends paid like 40-50 bucks for Morillo. I noticed it was 80 that night, where did all the money go? |

Resurfaced after a big NYE at Giant/Bonaventure. Went with my g/f, got a room at the hotel. Checked in early and spent the day cranking the tunes, drinking in our room and visiting friends as they checked in. Even met some people on our floor and partied with them a while.
Must say Giant did a bang up job on the production. Visuals, sound were top notch. Their events are always a cut above the rest, even their crowd is. Only complaint was understaffed VIP bars (why can't promoters get this right?)
Liked Cosmic Gate, not keen on A&B (not my taste). Set of the night was Christopher Lawrence, he rocked the crowd, totally relentless. He always delivers.
Night went fast, couldn't believe it was over at 4am. (Lucky for us, we continued the party in our room until 8am). |
