Cosmic Gate - New Years Eve 2010!
Nic Chagall feat. Jonathan Mendelsohn "This Moment"
From Giant @ Bonaventure Hotel, Downtown Los Angeles
djjoshuaallen
i started off the night with a filet mignon at the reef restaurant on the water next to the queen mary. After that I went over to my friend Kristy's house near the beach in San pedro for the countdown, then I continued to play off and on for about 15-20 hours for 20 of my close friends. The night included an almond champagne toast, some stunning mushroom tea, the new shpongle dvd, and a sneak preview of our burning man 2010 structure.:D
I gained the knowledge of the Universe at midnight.

Sounds like a typical Massive events, waitin so long for drinks/running out of beverages, overcrowded, etc. But Im sure Markus was worth it.
The Giant event was fantastic. The drink tickets were cool as beer was 5 bucks, the vodka sucked but oh well. It was nice to be with adults all night and dancin on carpet is helpin the body today.
A&B are always great, Cosmic Gate was good, a lot of popular songs, C.L was probably the best set. Although "As the rush comes" is overplayed, I relly enjoyed the remix he played. The crowd was into most the sets, and espically Christopher Lawrences. One absolute negative thing was the strobe light or whatever that flashing white bulbs were in front of the stage, very tough. The sound was extremely loud too, but the earplugs handled that. Very good way to start the new year :)
+1
There was NO line to get into the event at 9:30pm. Lots of room to dance. Zero shoving all night.

Lawlers SET WAS AMAZING, especially his last half and hr was just banging!
BAD:
Sanders set was bland, had no rhythm at all. He would play something good, and then another dope track and then drop the ball. I was pretty disappointing because he rocked it last time i had seen him.
Gerber was disappointing also, I went in expecting a lot. But trance style build ups kind of killed it for me. He did a good job for the most part, but then I kind of got over it.
I also thought Lawler's set was out of this world... definitely the best ive seen him spin since his Twilo set @ WMC! He rocked it all night, but I loved the track he spun right before midnite, that was definitely the track of the night for me.
Sander was pretty much crap! He always seems to play utter nonsense lately, but I still hold out hope bcuz of all the sick parties ive been to on The Terrace @ Space
Gerber, what can I say, I was definitely expecting a lot and he was sh*t! He was playing a lot of what i would call "experimental" tracks that were really annoying and completely boring so I left around 8
Crashed till 12, got up and went to The Standard for their Day 1 party and that was a lot of fun. Drank a whole bottle of wine and became "Sh*t Boy Are Dee" Droog always plays a great set (like they did @ Avalon) and the guy before Lee Curtiss was good as well
The parties @ The Standard are always a good time, so im glad i ended my 24hr binge there

Went to Giant... had a fantastic time like everyone else. Next to no lines... i think we stood in line maybe 5-6 minutes at the most waiting to get in, but only because the Fire Marshalls were doing some last-minute check and the doors were closed for a bit.
Tons of room to dance at all the stages. No ridiculousness with the elevators like in previous years. I agree about the speakers up front in the main room, but we were about 1/4th of the way back most of the night and it was great. Good sets from everyone (except Kristina Sky, man, just... so not my style). Lots of drink areas and little to no wait, most of the night.
The hotel was great, too - nice room and excellent service all around.

My friend and I went to the Meiji Jingu shrine in Tokyo to pay our respects...with about 100,000 other people (3 million people go there throughout the New Year's holiday).
We met up with some other friends and had a fairly low-key night drinking and relaxing rather than going to a club.
Unfortunately (for me), all of the EDM clubs are closed for holiday for the first one to two weeks of the new year.

Listened to the last half of Markus' TAO NYE set on After Hours radio today and it was sick, like some aliens came down from outer space and asked to hear the best EDM set the planet has to offer! Looks like I'll be there next time he comes to LA! :)
