Was originally not planning on doing this event, since my work schedule was up in the air. But SOOOOOO glad everything worked out!! Had an absolutely fantastic time out. Jeff, your opening set was killer!! I only caught the second half, but fantastic job! I had never seen Nevio before, and that was an interesting experience. From everyone's posts, it appears that he never has and apparently never will understand set flow? I actually didn't mind some of the stuff he was playing at all, but a set like that does NOT belong right before Lawler. Really out of place.
As for Lawler, I've seen him a few times before last night and have never been blown away, or even super impressed. But last night I was really enjoying his set (well not the last part so much but the remainder of it was good times!!). I also would have preferred the drums at a maximal level, but I still really enjoyed a lot of the groovy, sexy stuff he was playing. I also felt like it wasn't the same old Circa crowd. Most people seemed to be there for the dj and to have a good time, and it seemed that there weren't as many top 40 club-goers present when compared to the few other times I've been there. I thought the party had a great vibe going for the most part and it was fun experiencing Circa main room like that(completely different imo from past events that I've attended there).
Awesome night out with awesome people. Great meeting some new faces too! :):D

Another successful night out with friends and post-party shenanigans ala DEMF!

Circa:
It really shows that the place is going down the ters. Lots of the decor being pulled (all the posters at the entrance for example) and lots of equipment (lighting, speaker stacks, etc etc).

Nevio:
BARFFFFFFF

Lawler:
Was late by an hour, but put out like he should. Made the crowd go bonkers many times. Loved it when he played "Les Enfants". Overall, excellent party set, but could of gone a bit more crazy!

Hotel shenanigans.....
GOLD!

after reading the reviews i'm kinda glad i decided to skip out on this. at least i got to see lawler destroy TiL in november. :)

it would've been nice to see mr. button spinning in the main room though. glad to hear everyone loved your set.

the night started out great, not sure what happened but apparently our reduced list got 9 of us in completely free. we then decided to spend that money we saved on a bottle, which put the b-day boy a little over his limit... the bouncers were really cool about it, they let us take him to the hotel and get back in again with no problems. if this happened at guv i can imagine the same turn of events being a lot worse (getting talked to like an , probably being demanded a bribe to get back in if at all, etc).

music wise... i agree that nevio's set was way too different than lawler's style, felt like we were getting ready for a trance set or something. kind of stupid that he had to start from scratch when he finally came on.. how hard can it be to transition into a style at least a little like his?

i liked lawler as i usually do, but was a little disappointed.. i didnt really get into it until around 4 when he started bringing on the swingy tech... but soon after that he was already winding things down. still the rest of the set was consistent, his dark ominous house didn't get boring but just lacked some "oh snap" moments i was expecting. was happy enough to hear him headline away from skybar's crappy acoustics though.

the closing set could have been better too, wtf was with playing that gimmicky bumblebee song right after lawler's finished? such a weird moment.

don't know why people are complaining about the crowd, it was fine imo. a lot more people dressed up than you'd see in any other after hours place but did not witness any bona-fide douchebaggery. also hope it isn't the last time i get to go to circa, altough there is lots to improve i think it has a lot of potential for occasional after hours dj events like these.

definitely no complaint about the crowd. vibe was pretty decent during lawler set. didn't see much of bad sketch

i wouldn't say i'd never go to circa again. given the right event, i'd deffo give it a shot again

Also, wtf with the weak-ass lighting? Not even ONE laser? Just a bunch of regular spot-lights swirling around and the occasional strobe-flash? Get REAL Circa. For a club that tries to be the big-club alternative to Guv, it sure strikes me as a giant, amateur, fail-fest.

Circa used to have reams of very bright LED bars surrounding the main room. It used to be WAY more impressive, to the extent of being excessive.

Thinking back to yesterday, I actually kind of enjoyed the feeling of minor lighting in a very dark club. It gives that massive space some feeling of intimacy, and removes the sense of big flashy circus. Something along the lines of Footwork's near sensory deprivation decor (though more so).

On first glance, however, it was kind of sad to see a previously astonishing facility hollowed out into the shell of a club that remains.

agree with this too. the crowd was good and way better then any event i've been to @ guv in the last few years. it seemed like more of a "normal" crowd (ie. not completely overrun with crackheads and weird middle aged / senior skasian fobs).

wasn't planning on going but friends i was staying with all wanted to go so got there around 230. lots of TAs which made it fun for sure. lawler played well but not best that i've seen him. lol michaelangelo got on and started playing spacey techno and the place cleared out :wtf:

Not really a fan of Circa... but making our way right behind Lawler made it a lot better
