It truly is such an ignorant and elementary argument to get into though. I mean, really? "Proper" techno? There is no "proper" anything. Unless of course, the formula is all written down in The Big Rule Book of Music somewhere, then I stand corrected. Good music crosses boundaries and blurs genres anyways, so who really gives a ? What difference does it make to you or anyone else?
this genre, that genre. Sounds like noob talk to me.

+ 1.
also, Richie Hawtin would beg to differ. Also, he would know since he was almost around when techno started in Detroit.:p
Just because techno has changed does not mean it's not techno.
Same with any genre. Unless it completely loses the basic elements of the genre.

personally, i would be proud if a current genre carried traits of a existing genre. no reason to be elitist here, look on the bright side.

This is the issue that I have...
You have one genre being labeled as techno right? Then someone comes along, and develops an entirely different sound, and calls IT techno...
Well, to the people who were into the first one, and dislike the second one, it's almost offensive. I'm not sure how to word exactly what I mean but I'm sure you get my point...

That's just music evolving. It happens to everything. Compare Rock in the 70s to Rock today, or Metal, Punk or Pop in the 80s to Metal, Punk or Pop today. They're all different. It's silly to argue about it.

Funny...a lot of modern Jazz musicians will still play standards from 50-60 years ago, recognising the brilliance of their predecessor's work, yet a large portion of today's "Techno" DJs won't go anywhere near cuts that were produced over the past 10-20 years, considering them to be old and outdated.
