Just accept you are in the minority here. Either change in your life something and move over there, throw a party here, or quit whining. It's like over and over from the same people in the techno community...this purist nonsense is tiresome and old IMO.
on the whole, Toronto is a really dynamic city for electronic music, whether you agree or not. Major international DJs recognize what a great scene and crowd we have here. I for one don't spend my life wishing I were elsewhere.
Right, I forget...Toronto, the city where everything's o.k. until someone complains, and then it's still o.k.
I never said Toronto wasn't a dynamic city for electronic music, but when a certain style (especially one I have a longstanding fondness for) is drastically underrepresented, it tends to diminish my enthusiasm for what's already here (which has little to do with so-called purism and more with recognizing there's a gap that needs filling).
And while I've been on a long hiatus while my wife and I wrapped up our shiatsu schooling, I do throw parties here, making use of a friend's Dynacord soundsystem and featuring the best local talent I can get my hands on. The next one will most likely be in March/April, a collaboration with some Guelph friends, with the room I'm handling featuring Trevor Wilkes and Eric Lork (along with yours truly), both of whom I'm certain you're familiar with.
Since you're such a Toronto booster, I take it you'll be out to support?
BANG!

See, this is where I disagree. How can you argue there's a gap that needs filling when the Toronto scene just can't seem to support these names whenever they come to town? There's no gap because there's no significant demand for these artists and the sound they play. If there were, they would get booked to play here, and this constant grumbling from the hard/pure techno lovers would go away.
I go out in Toronto whenever I feel like it, and to whatever events I feel like going to. I rarely go out for the sake of "supporting" anymore, and that's just because of my own personal priorities. I just dont feel like being in clubs all weekend every weekend. But then again, I also won't complain about what we have here either, or get my shorts in a knot if/when things change again.

nice! I'll likely be passing on the festival this year because I am opting to go to the moto gp event here instead (and they are seemingly always on the same day). I tend to prefer the Awakenings indoor events at Gashouder though, my favourite venue for shows here... speaking of which I am anxious to see what is in store for the Easter 3 day weekend lineup, should be announced next month... hoping for another 97-2001 edition too.

Sims is like a Techno comet - New York will be the closest he'll be getting to Toronto, and he seems to spend most of his time orbiting Spain. I predict a disaster of beautiful proportions if he ever directly impacts this city...
