The Duke is one of the older pubs in the area. Solid place with a good selection of brews on tap. You'll be right in the core of "Uptown Waterloo" which is really the downtown. It's a short walk to Jane Bond, The Huether, Failte, & McMullins. Failte is the quintessential classic Irish pub. Stop in for a pint. Seriously. It really does feel like you've stepped into Ireland there.
From there, it's about a 10 minute walk along King towards your hotel before you run into Phil's on the South side of King before you hit University Ave. Make sure you see it. I dare say it's the best dive bar in Ontario. |

So my night in Waterloo...
1) Dinner @ Wildcraft - Nice place, like a pretentious kelseys... good food, but pricier (worth it) and with a fancy twist like trendy chipotle sauces, steak butter and some peppercorn jack glaze... not bad, ate a the bar, slow service... but the damn eye candy was amazing!!! :eyes: Enjoyed my dinner
Met up with Jay at the hotel...had a couple dranks...
2) Went to the Duke to meet up with some work peeps, nice place, some nice tail in there, good selection of beer, band it kinda loud.. but decent. Wish there was a sign ON the street so we didn't drive around the block 5 times before finally (garmin) realizing it was behing the place...
3) Google maps said Phils was UP the street, looked for it, no go... decided to hit up Roxxannes... went ALL the way there... ready for some good old fashioned stripper lovin'
"Sorry, we're closed tonight because of water damage"
4) So we go hit up Phil, realize it was BEFORE the Duke... get there, line up... how does a dive have a line up... kids, young harlots all over...stand in line, feelin kinda old. Get ID'ed from the bouncer who looks like he should be in a biker gang... looks at my ID, then rolls his eyes lol... go in, get some drinks, get bumped around a bunch, hear some old tracks... definently smelled like puke and piss.... ohh boy! Here is how I felt...
- Disgusting
- Old
- Awesome
- Sad
- This place is FUN
- What's that smell?
- Sweet
- I want a time machine
- I'm gonna get arrested for what i'm thinking right now
- YEAH $2.25 a drank!
- and so much more
Glad I actually checked it out... left early... my random grey hairs were probably lighting up under the blacklight....lol! The hiphop tracks were the same ones I remember hahahaha, isn't there new out?!
5) Head back to the hotel, order Pepi's Pizza... Medium double cheese and pepperoni...... IN AMAZING PIZZA!
Had a great night in the 'loo!!!

ah. sucks you're in KW now when I'm in Cali. would have taken you to couple of fun places
Phils... you gotta do it at least once, just to say that you did it
nothing really to do in KW unless you like to get drunk. checking out Rev at least once is also a must. |

ahh the duke is amazing, i used to go there on tuesdays for cheap pitchers and super cheap wings
the purple room at rev is like reggaeton/dancehall style now, except for the random night they get dj ampz back in there
i dunno if any of you guys have been to the wax in kitchener, but i'm doing an event there jan. 28 with hatiras and flipside... hope to see some of you out! |
